Senior Software Engineer

Godin Productions Ltd. · Toronto, ON · Full-time · Hybrid/On-site · Reports to the CTO

About Godin For 36 years, Godin Productions has been the behind-the-scenes force helping Canadian and global brands show up beautifully at retail, trade shows and events in North America. We design and produce in-store displays, shopper marketing campaigns, POS materials, event builds, and print solutions, end to end, for some of the most recognized names in food, beverage, and consumer goods. With manufacturing facilities in Toronto, we have the in-house capability to take a project from first sketch to finished installation — and we’re in a period of exciting growth, investing in new capabilities and expanding what we can offer our clients.

What makes us different is that we build our own software. Our estimating, scheduling, prepress, order management, inventory and fulfillment systems are developed in-house, and they are the backbone of how work moves from a customer’s brief to a finished display on a store shelf.

The role

We’re hiring a Senior Software Developer to take ownership of core platforms in a small, high-leverage team. You’ll work directly with the CTO and be the most senior hands-on engineer on the team, which means you’ll write a lot of code, set the technical bar, and shape how we build.

The systems you’ll work on span the full life of an order:

- Our ERP and system of record, covering estimating, quoting, production and invoicing. It handles hundreds of thousands of API calls a day and everything else depends on it.
- Our production platform: imposition and estimation, station-level scheduling with live job tracking, and prepress automation.
- Our order management system: inventory, orders, distribution, campaign management and carrier rate shopping for fulfillment.
- A new customer-facing ordering product launching this fall.

These are customer-facing, business-critical systems. When they fail, orders stop and production stalls. You’ll be expected to treat them that way.

What you’ll do

- Own the design, delivery and reliability of one or more of our core platforms, end to end — from working with production, sales and customer service on requirements through to deployment and support.
- Lead technical design for new capabilities: write the approach before the code, weigh trade-offs explicitly, and document decisions so others can follow them.
- Carry the hard problems: integration with production equipment and prepress workflows, scheduling logic, data integrity across system boundaries, performance at high API volumes.

- Maintain and modernize our system of record while keeping it stable — incremental improvement, not rewrites.
- Integrate with customer and partner systems (retailer and CPG portals, carriers, supply-chain platforms) and build the APIs others consume.
- Raise engineering quality across the team: code review, testing strategy, CI/CD, observability, and pragmatic standards that fit a small team.
- Build and maintain the AI harnesses the team develops with — agent configurations, context and instruction files, tool integrations, evals and guardrails — so that AI-assisted work is repeatable, reviewable and safe on production systems.
- Use AI-assisted development tools as a first-class part of your own workflow, and help the team use them well — with the architectural judgment to know when generated code is right and when it isn’t.
- Mentor and pair with junior and contract developers; help them grow into owners of their own components.
- Contribute to Godin’s broader push to make automation and AI intrinsic to how the company operates, from the shop floor to customer ordering.

What we’re looking for

- A track record of building and running production web applications and APIs that a business depends on.
- Strong full-stack experience with modern TypeScript/JavaScript frameworks, plus solid relational database design and SQL.
- Demonstrated ownership: you’ve been the person accountable for a system’s architecture, reliability and evolution, not just a contributor to it.
- Sound architectural judgment: you can reason about data models, boundaries between systems, failure modes and performance, and explain your reasoning to non-engineers.
- Comfortable in a small team where you’ll cover a lot of ground — backend, frontend, integrations, infrastructure, support.
- Experience integrating with third-party systems (APIs, EDI, file-based exchanges, carrier and logistics services).
- Hands-on experience setting up AI development harnesses — agentic coding tools, prompt and context engineering, tool/MCP integrations, and evaluation loops — not just using autocomplete.
- Fluent with AI coding tools and clear-eyed about their strengths and limits.
- A pragmatic, learn-as-you-go mindset:

you’d rather ship a well-reasoned solution and improve it than wait for perfect information.
- Clear written communication — design notes, PR descriptions and tickets that others can act on.

Nice to have

- Experience in manufacturing, print, packaging, logistics or another operations-heavy environment where software meets physical production.
- Familiarity with ERP/MIS, MES or scheduling systems, or with prepress/imposition concepts (PDF workflows, JDF/JMF, colour management).
- Exposure to ERP modernization or legacy system stewardship.
- Experience with observability and incident response for production systems.
- Experience building LLM-powered features or automations into operational workflows.

Why this role

- Real ownership of systems that run a manufacturing business, with a direct line to the CTO and visible impact on the shop floor and on customers.
- A product roadmap with genuinely interesting problems — production scheduling, prepress automation, on-demand manufacturing, a new customer ordering platform — not ticket churn.
- A small team that moves quickly and is investing in AI-enabled ways of working.
- Compensation: $120,000 - $130,000

How to apply
