We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join a construction and contractor organization in Toronto, Ontario on a Contract basis. This opportunity is ideal for someone with payroll experience who can step in quickly, manage high-volume payroll activity, and help maintain continuity during a retirement transition. The position supports a large Canadian workforce with a mix of salaried, hourly, unionized, non-unionized, and seasonal employees. This role requires robust attention to detail, confidence with payroll systems, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with a regular onsite presence.

Responsibilities:

- Process weekly payroll for a large employee population, ensuring earnings, deductions, and payments are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Review and import time and attendance data from systems such as Kronos and other site-based tracking tools before finalizing payroll in Dayforce.
- Administer payroll for hourly employees across unionized and non-unionized groups, applying pay rates and employment terms in accordance with collective agreements and company policies.
- Prepare and distribute pay statements for applicable employee groups each week, including coordinating required mailings and internal delivery timelines.
- Enter and validate payroll adjustments such as bonuses, allowances, and other special payments while confirming that calculations are correct.
- Maintain employee wage information, payroll records, and supporting spreadsheets, including reconciliations related to union dues and other payroll-specific reporting.
- Support pension, TFSA, and benefits-related payroll inputs for multiple union groups, taking into account varying local agreement requirements.
- Run payroll reports for review and submit completed payroll information for approval prior to final processing.
- Provide hands-on knowledge transfer support during the contract period to help preserve key payroll processes and ensure uninterrupted service.




- Assist with payroll administration for seasonal staff and summer students, including manual entry of hours when required.
- Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience in a high-volume setting.
- Demonstrated experience processing payroll for hourly and salaried employees within Canadian payroll operations.
- Strong working knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce for payroll processing.
- Experience using Kronos, UKG Pro, or similar timekeeping and workforce management systems.
- Familiarity with union payroll, including multiple collective agreements, union dues, pension, and welfare-related deductions.
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to manage spreadsheets, review reports, and verify payroll data accurately.
- Solid understanding of payroll controls, data accuracy, and confidential record handling.
- Ability to work onsite in Toronto, Ontario two days per week and start as soon as possible.
