Wage: $19.00 per hour

Purpose

The Kitchen Support role provides critical operational assistance to ensure the smooth, safe, and efficient functioning of the Ark Aid kitchen. This role is primarily focused on supporting daily food operations, including managing incoming food donations, preparing kitchen spaces, washing dishes, and assisting culinary staff with food preparation. By fostering safety, dignity, and connection, the Kitchen Support team member directly advances the Christian mission of Ark Aid Street Mission Inc. - facilitating opportunities for marginalized individuals and those experiencing homelessness to experience love, healing, and liberation.

Key Responsibilities
Food Logistics & Inventory Support

- Donation Sorting & Storage: Receive, unload, sort, and properly store incoming food donations in designated dry, refrigerated, or freezer storage areas according to food safety guidelines.
- Stock Organization: Keep food storage areas, walk-in coolers, and pantries organized, clean, and properly labeled using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) stock rotation rules.

Kitchen Operations & Sanitation

- Dishwashing & Warewashing: Operates commercial dishwashers, washes pots, pans, utensils, and serving equipment manually or mechanically, ensuring all dishware is sanitized and stored promptly.
- Facility Maintenance: Clean and sanitize kitchen work surfaces, food prep stations, equipment, floors, and dining space prep areas continuously throughout the shift to maintain high sanitation standards.
- Waste Management:



Collect and properly dispose of kitchen trash, recycling, and organic compost in accordance with facility policies.

Food Preparation & Culinary Support

- Basic Prep Work: Assist chefs and kitchen leadership with basic, routine prep tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping fruits and vegetables, and portioning ingredients.
- Meal Service Support: Assist in set-up, packaging, or plating for meal delivery or counter service to ensure timely meal availability.
- Qualifications & SkillsRequired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience receiving or managing inventory/donations in a shelter, community center, or non-profit environment.
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, catering setting, or institutional food service environment.
- Safe Food Handling Certification
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Food Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with commercial kitchen sanitation standards and safe food handling procedures.
- Task Efficiency: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced workplace while balancing multiple physical tasks.
- Team Alignment: Ability to follow direction closely from kitchen leaders and work collaboratively with fellow staff and community volunteers.
