NCS Fluid Handling Systems

Newton

We are currently seeking a Junior Estimator to join the NCS Team in a challenging role.

NCS Fluid Handling Systems delivers expert dewatering, water management, hydrostatic testing, filtration, and sediment control solutions across Canada. Supported by a skilled team and partners, NCS serves energy, mining, industrial, and municipal construction markets with innovative systems for river diversions, sewer bypass, wellpoint dewatering, and water treatment.

If you are seeking a challenging yet rewarding career and meet the qualifications outlined, we would love to hear from you!

Role Summary

The Junior Estimator must have a strong background · in estimating and/or designing within water management, construction, or industrial projects. This role involves designing, evaluating project specifications, preparing accurate estimates, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. The incumbent will play a crucial role in the bidding process and contribute to the overall profitability of our projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Estimating

- Review sales bid, often with limited documentation, and extract technical requirements based on customer goals.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and field conditions to develop comprehensive designs and proposals.
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for equipment, materials, and labor based on system requirements, logistics, for water management projects.
- Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies in designs and project execution.

2. System Design

- Design efficient hydraulic systems for a range of applications including sewer bypasses, long distance water transfers, creek/river diversions, well point, deep well and eductor dewatering and water treatment.
- Perform and document detailed hydraulic calculations to support system design.
- Develop engineered system layouts including, but not limited to, pump sizing, pipe routing, and flow calculations.

- Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure designs are practical and constructible.
- Develop engineered drawings and flow models to verify the system will meet performance targets (flow rate, head pressure, etc.).
- Conduct system capacity analysis and friction loss calculations
- Optimize designs for performance, safety, and cost-efficiency
- Provide engineered protocols and system designs that deliver on NCS’s value proposition: efficiency, environmental compliance and cost effectiveness

3. Technical Support & Coordination

- Prepare detailed engineered plans for client submission and third party-engineering review.
- Ensure all designs meet regulatory and industry standards.
- Create P & ID drawings that illustrate fluid system layout, equipment setup and site specific considerations.
- Support the sales and operations teams with technical input during proposal and project execution phases.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, and client consultations as needed.
- Gather and communicate market intelligence, competitor insights, and client feedback to inform system design strategies and pricing models.

4. Collaboration & Communication

- Support the use of established best practices, templates, and procedures for estimating and design deliverables.
- Compile client and colleague feedback to ensure pricing remains competitive and aligned with industry benchmarks.
- Communicate effectively with internal operations, project managers, and leadership teams.
- Contribute to standardization and documentation of estimating and design practices.

Qualifications & Competencies

- Diploma in Engineering Technology in Civil, Mechanical, Geotechnical, or a related discipline.

An Engineering degree is considered an asset but is not required.
- 3+ years of experience in estimating and/or designing within fluid systems, construction, groundwater control, mining operations, geotechnical surveying, or industrial projects.
- Solid technical foundation in groundwater control systems, including design support, installation, and performance monitoring of dewatering systems (pumps, wellpoints, pipelines).
- In-depth knowledge of deep well and eductor systems, with preference given to candidates who have hands-on, on-site installation experience.
- Geotechnical data collection and analysis experience, including Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) and subsurface profiling to support risk assessments and construction planning is a plus.
- Strong ability to perform flow calculations, pressure loss assessments, and pump/system sizing.
- Robust knowledge of pumps, piping systems, flow dynamics, and related equipment.
- Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Visio) and all Microsoft communication software (Outlook, Microsoft Teams).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documents.
- Field experience in dewatering or fluid management is a strong asset.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites as required.

Qualifications Preferred:

- Designing experience in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Familiarity with fluid system components such as diesel/electric pumps, HDPE piping, valves, fittings, tanks, and filtration systems

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $80,000.00-$85,000.00 per year

Benefits:

- Dental care
- Disability insurance
- Employee assistance program
- Extended health care
- Life insurance
