Position Summary

SPCA Swift Current is seeking an experienced, compassionate and organized Animal Services Manager to lead our Animal Services team and oversee the day-to-day delivery of animal care and shelter operations.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Animal Services Manager is responsible for animal welfare and health standards, admissions, adoptions, foster care, capacity-to-care, staff leadership and scheduling, operational procedures, and oversight of our crematorium and aftercare services.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is confident managing both people and animal-care operations in a busy and evolving shelter environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, supervise and support the Animal Services team.
- Manage staff scheduling, coverage, attendance, training and performance.
- Oversee daily animal care, husbandry, sanitation, enrichment and safety standards.
- Monitor animal health, behaviour and welfare concerns and coordinate veterinary care as required.
- Oversee animal admissions, surrender and waitlist processes, adoptions and foster placements.
- Monitor shelter capacity and support responsible capacity-to-care decisions.
- Ensure animal health, treatment, behavioural and shelter records are accurate and current.
- Develop, maintain and implement Animal Services procedures and SOPs.
- Oversee staff and volunteer training within Animal Services.
- Oversee inventory, supplies and operational needs within the department.
- Support facility safety, security and emergency procedures.
- Oversee the operational delivery of crematorium and aftercare services.
- Work collaboratively with veterinary clinics, volunteers, community partners and other SPCA team members.
- Provide hands-on animal care and operational support when required.
- Report departmental activity,



concerns and operational needs to the Executive Director.

Qualifications

- Strong knowledge and practical experience in companion-animal care, behaviour, handling and restraint.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, including scheduling, training, coaching and performance management.
- Ability to recognize signs of animal illness, injury, stress and behavioural concerns.
- Robust understanding of animal welfare and capacity-to-care practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive animal-welfare, staff and public situations professionally and compassionately.
- Comfortable using workplace technology and learning shelter-management software.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to perform physically active work and assist with hands-on animal care when required.
- Willingness to complete required crematorium and aftercare training.

Previous experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, rescue or similar animal-care environment is strongly preferred.
