Apprentice Refrigeration Mechanic Roles and Responsibilities

Assist and learn from Journeyman Refrigeration Mechanics in all areas of commercial and residential, including but not limited to:

- Troubleshoot equipment and controls issues on a variety of Cooling, Heating and ventilation equipment and properly repair in both residential and commercial situations.
- Assisting with and learning of new air conditioning equipment
- locate and mark the positions for refrigeration lines and equipment
- cut holes through walls and floors to accommodate pipes
- learn how to cut, clean, and weld refrigeration lines
- Drill holes through concrete, wood, steel to secure proper hangers




- Be able to properly use power tools and torches to complete work
- Move and install equipment such as air conditioning units
- Learn how to complete maintenance on equipment. And perform preventative maintenance
- Learn how to troubleshoot equipment issues and properly fix them.
- Assist with material handling
- Maintain a clean, safe working area at all times
- Follow all Pad-Car Mechanical policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Certificates/Licences

- Safety oriented work ethic
- Mechanical Aptitude
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to take and follow direction
- Be a team player
- Willing to be work on call rotation
- Able to work alone, and with others as required
- Competent use of hand and power tools
- Be willing to attend trade school to progress through apprenticeship program (Schooling is in Calgary or Edmonton)
- use proper lifting techniques
- be on your feet for extended periods
- sometimes work in awkward positions
- Ability to work on constructions sites in all weather conditions
- Valid Class 5 drivers license

- Preferred Experience

- Experience working with electricity
- Pre-Apprentice experience considered an asset
- Refrigeration Apprenticeship Schooling and related hours of Experience is an asset
- Experience in commercial construction or service is an asset
