If you want a job where you repeat the same task all day, this isn't it. If you want to learn how custom cabinetry is built and finished properly, and become known for the quality of your work, keep reading.
Bateman Fine Cabinetry is a completely custom woodworking shop with nearly 40 years in the industry. Kitchens, built-ins, furniture and architectural millwork are engineered, cut, built and finished under one roof.
Our mission is to craft exceptional spaces through an unwavering commitment to excellence. We build more than cabinetry. We build trust, create lasting beauty and form relationships that extend well beyond one project. We're looking for the right person to grow with us.
The role
You'll begin by learning our cabinetry and assembly process, then receive hands-on training in wood finishing alongside an experienced finisher.
Over time, finishing will become a primary part of your role, while you continue supporting assembly and other areas of the shop as needed. The goal is to develop a well-rounded craftsperson who understands how a piece is built and how to give it an exceptional finish.
What you'll do and learn
- Assemble custom cabinet boxes, drawers and fronts from shop drawings.
- Work with both frameless and face-frame construction.
- Fit doors, drawer fronts and hardware to precise tolerances.
- Prepare wood and MDF surfaces through final sanding, cleaning and masking.
- Learn to spray stains, primers, paint, post-catalyzed lacquer and polyurethane.
- Mix stains and match colours to approved samples.
- Maintain the spray booth, equipment and finishing area.
- Inspect your own work before it moves to the next stage.
- Cross-train in other areas of the shop and assist with installations when needed.
How we work Five qualities matter in our shop. You don't need to know everything on day one, but you should already approach work this way.
Precision. Meticulous attention to detail on every joint and every finish.
Perseverance. We stay committed to exceptional craftsmanship, including when it takes another pass to get something right.
Proactive thinking. We anticipate what's needed and flag problems before they get built in.
Positivity. We contribute to a supportive, respectful and solution-focused crew.
Progress. We invest in skills, improve how we work and create opportunities for people who grow with us.
Who we're looking for
You don't need to arrive as a finished cabinet maker or an experienced sprayer. We're looking for aptitude, care and a genuine willingness to learn. This role can grow into a formal Cabinetmaker apprenticeship and a long-term career with Bateman.
- You want to become highly skilled at a hands-on trade.
- You have some hands-on exposure to woodworking, carpentry, cabinetmaking, auto body, painting or manufacturing, through work, school or personal projects.
- You have a good eye, patience and respect for detailed work.
- You can follow a drawing and accurately read a tape measure, or you can learn quickly.
- You take ownership of your work, including fixing your mistakes.
- You show up reliably, on time and ready to contribute.
- You're comfortable working on your feet, handling cabinet components and safely using required personal protective equipment.
- You have CSA-approved safety boots and reliable transportation to our Oro-Medonte shop.
Finishing experience is an asset, not a requirement. Experienced cabinet makers and finishers, we want to hear from you too. Pay reflects the skills you bring.
What you get

- Cross-training in assembly, finishing and installation.
