About LocalOne

LocalOne is a technology company preparing multiple products for the North American services market. The first commercial product is a universal services marketplace. Planned capabilities also include protected buyer–seller transactions, AI that structures requests and compares providers, and LocalOne's own AI agents operating within permissions set by users.

LocalOne is pre-launch. We have the product concept and project documentation. The technical foundation and the engineering team are still to be built, and you will lead that work from the start.

What you will do

- Lead technical architecture and engineering standards across LocalOne products.
- Work with product management to turn approved priorities into an MVP plan and sequenced engineering work, with estimates and dependencies across teams.
- Work with HR to build the engineering team: define role requirements, conduct technical interviews and assess candidates' skills and suitability. LocalOne leadership approves final hiring decisions.
- Lead and coordinate specialists in backend, payments, iOS, Android, web, AI/data, DevOps/security/SRE and QA as the team grows.
- Write and review backend code and resolve complex problems across connected systems.
- Make technical decisions on cloud services, providers and AI tools, weighing product requirements, security, integration effort and operating costs.
- Oversee release readiness, reliability, incident escalation, backups and recovery.




- Maintain technical documentation, clear responsibilities and knowledge transfer.

Required experience

- Hands-on backend development in at least one modern language, with software delivered and supported in production.
- Solid backend/API design and relational database skills, including PostgreSQL-class systems, transactions, concurrency, migrations and data integrity.
- Order and payment state machines: durable events, idempotent operations, webhooks, retries and recovery after failures.
- Payment provider integrations (account verification, payout states, refunds, chargebacks), plus internal ledger design and reconciliation with provider records.
- Launching a product from initial development into production, ideally a marketplace, fintech or SaaS product with orders and payments.
- Managing and mentoring engineering teams, conducting technical interviews and assessing the quality and timeliness of engineers' work.
- Turning product priorities into engineering plans and estimates, and explaining technical decisions in terms of delivery dates, costs, security and service reliability.

Nice to have

- Working knowledge of cloud services, CI/CD, monitoring, secrets management,



security controls and safe release and rollback practices.
- Practical experience with AI model integration: structured outputs, evaluations and fallbacks when a model fails.
- Familiarity with marketplace payment flows: seller verification (KYC/KYB), holding and releasing funds.
- Designing permissions and audit trails for AI agents that act on behalf of users, including protection against prompt injection.

Suitable backgrounds include CTO, Head/VP of Engineering, or Staff/Principal Backend or Platform Engineer with engineering leadership experience.

Compensation and start date

- Full-time employee role, fully remote. Candidates may be based in any country; how employment is structured in each country is agreed individually.
- Expected annual base salary for the initial full-time employment: US$150,000.
- LocalOne is pre-launch and raising financing, expected to close within three months. Paid employment begins after financing is secured and terms are agreed. Until then, the process consists of interviews and familiarization with project materials, shared under NDA. We do not ask for unpaid project work.
