Our client, a well-established, member-based not-for-profit association in British Columbia, is looking for a hands-on Controller to own its finance function. The team is fully virtual, and the role is designed to be done in four days a week.

You will be the organization's senior finance person, responsible for everything from month-end close to board reporting. It will suit someone who enjoys running a tidy, accurate set of books and being a trusted advisor to leadership.

What you'll do

- Own the full accounting cycle in QuickBooks on an accrual basis, including month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, and journal entries
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with ASNPO
- Manage revenue recognition and deferrals across membership, sponsorship, event, and program funding streams
- Track restricted and program-specific funding, and prepare financial reports for funders
- Lead the annual budget, forecasts, and cash flow management
- Present clear financial reports and analysis to the CEO, the finance committee, and the Board




- Lead the annual audit and act as the main contact for external auditors
- Oversee payables, receivables, payroll, GST, and statutory filings
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and processes

What you bring

- CPA designation
- [5+] years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a not-for-profit or association
- Robust working knowledge of ASNPO and accrual accounting
- Advanced QuickBooks skills
- Experience with deferred revenue, restricted funding, and funder reporting
- Experience leading an audit and reporting to a board or finance committee
- The self-direction to work independently on a fully remote team
- The ability to explain financial results clearly to non-finance colleagues
