Vancouver, BC – Part-Time

Shaughnessy Eye Clinic is looking for an experienced and motivated Optician to join our friendly and knowledgeable team in Vancouver.

We are a modern, fast-paced optometry clinic committed to providing exceptional patient care in a welcoming and professional environment. Our clinic utilizes up-to-date technology, including Optomap, OCT, and IDRA, and offers dry eye treatments as well as in-house lens edging and mounting.

We are looking for someone who is confident in their optical skills, enjoys building relationships with patients, and is comfortable working as part of a collaborative team. While this role is primarily focused on optical, our ideal candidate is flexible and willing to assist with front desk, administrative, and clinical duties when needed.

About the Role

As an Optician, you will help patients find eyewear that meets their visual, lifestyle, and personal needs while providing knowledgeable and friendly service throughout their experience.

Our ideal candidate has previous Optician experience and is comfortable stepping into a busy clinic environment. We will provide training on our specific processes and systems, but we are looking for someone who has a strong optical foundation and is ready to hit the ground running.

Responsibilities

- Measure, fit, adjust, and dispense eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Assist patients with frame and lens selection based on their prescription, lifestyle, and individual needs
- Troubleshoot patient concerns related to lens design, vision, fit, and frame adjustments
- Educate patients on lens options and the proper care and use of eyewear and contact lenses
- Handle contact lens orders, including trials and clinic stock
- Edge and mount lenses for patients using our in-house lab
- Maintain accurate patient prescription and order information
- Assist with glaucoma workups and visual field testing
- Perform basic pre-screening and clinical support as needed
- Assist with invoice reconciliation




- Support front desk duties, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and general administration
- Provide exceptional customer service and contribute to a positive patient experience
- Support other areas of the clinic when needed

What We're Looking For

- Previous Optician experience
- Strong optical knowledge and confidence working with patients
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Friendly, professional, and team-oriented approach
- Ability to manage challenging patient situations calmly and professionally
- Comfortable assisting with administrative and front desk responsibilities
- Flexible and willing to support different areas of the clinic
- In-house edging and mounting experience is considered an asset, but is not required
