Overview

Nextgen Innovations Inc. is a growing metal fabrication company specializing in laser cutting, forming, welding, machining and custom metal fabrication. We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Fabrication Shop Technician to join our production team at our North York facility.

This is a hands-on shop position for someone who is comfortable working with metal, reading shop drawings, using common fabrication tools and working closely with experienced welders and fabricators.

Responsibilities

- Read and understand shop drawings, fabrication drawings and basic dimensions
- Measure and mark materials accurately using tape measures, squares, calipers and other measuring tools
- Operate metal saw cutting machines to cut tubing, angle, flat bar and other materials
- Operate Angle grinders, Drills, Impact guns, Hand tools & Deburring and finishing tools when and as required
- Assist welders with material preparation, fit-up, grinding and general fabrication
- Prepare parts and materials for welding and assembly
- Occasionally operate CNC press brake and hydraulic shear after appropriate training
- Load, unload and organize raw materials and completed parts
- Perform basic deburring, grinding, cleaning and finishing of fabricated parts
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow workplace safety procedures and use PPE properly
- Assist with general shop duties as required
- Work as part of a team to meet production schedules and quality requirements

Qualifications

Required:

- Previous experience in a metal fabrication, welding or manufacturing shop
- Ability to read and understand basic shop drawings
- Comfortable using measuring tools and working with dimensions




- Experience operating a metal cutting saw
- Experience using grinders and other common shop tools
- Good understanding of basic fabrication practices
- Ability to safely lift and move materials
- Reliable, punctual and willing to learn
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Asset:

- Experience with a CNC press brake
- Experience operating a metal shear
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Experience with structural steel, stainless steel or aluminum
- Forklift experience
- Experience with laser-cut parts and fabrication assemblies

What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate is a hands-on shop person who enjoys working with metal and machinery. You don't necessarily need to be an expert CNC operator. We are looking for someone who already understands shop work, can read drawings, use tools safely and effectively, and is willing to learn additional equipment such as our CNC press brake and shear.

You will work closely with our welders and fabricators, so teamwork, communication and a valuable work ethic are very important.
