JOB SUMMARY

Homalco First Nation is seeking a compassionate, organized, and community-minded Family Services Assistant to support individuals and families accessing Social Development and related community services.

Reporting to and working under the guidance of the Social Development Coordinator, this is an entry-level, developmental role for someone interested in building experience in family, community, and social-support services. The Family Services Assistant helps clients navigate income-assistance processes, access Homalco and external supports, and work toward greater stability, wellbeing, and independence.

The successful candidate will receive regular mentorship, training, and feedback from the Social Development Coordinator. This role involves client intake support, appointment scheduling, document collection, file maintenance, referrals, follow-up, and support for family-centred programming.

This is a non-delegated support role. The Family Services Assistant does not make eligibility decisions, provide clinical counselling, conduct child-protection investigations, or independently manage complex files. Complex, urgent, safety-related, or crisis matters must be referred to the Social Development Coordinator and/or the appropriate service provider.

- Assist with forms, required documents, appointments, referrals, and follow-up.
- Provide information about income assistance, housing, employment, education, health, transportation, childcare, food security, and community supports.
- Support clients to identify immediate needs, practical goals, and next steps, with guidance from the Social Development Coordinator.
- Help clients access Homalco, provincial, federal, Indigenous, and local community services.
- Provide practical assistance and referrals related to family wellbeing, housing, food security, employment readiness,

health appointments, and childcare.
- Maintain qualified boundaries while building positive, trusting relationships with community members.

Program Administration and Coordination

- Assist with client intake, document collection, file creation, data entry, and confidential record maintenance.
- Prepare forms, correspondence, appointment reminders, client notes, and referral documents.
- Track appointments, outstanding documents, client follow-up, referrals, and service outcomes.
- Support program reporting, statistics, filing, supply coordination, and other administrative duties.
- Work with Homalco departments and external service providers to support coordinated, family-centred service delivery.
- Assist with workshops, information sessions, community events, and culturally relevant activities.
- Identify barriers or concerns and bring them forward to the Social Development Coordinator.

Professional Practice and Development

- Participate in ongoing mentorship, supervision, training, and feedback from the Social Development Coordinator.
- Follow program procedures, confidentiality requirements, privacy legislation, funding requirements, and workplace safety practices.
- Maintain explicit, factual, timely documentation of client contacts and program activities.
- Recognize concerns requiring support or escalation and promptly seek direction, particularly where there may be safety, wellness, crisis, or child-protection concerns.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- An equivalent combination of education, training, community knowledge, lived experience, volunteer experience, customer service, or administrative experience will be considered.
- This is an entry-level role; previous experience in social services, community support, health, housing, education, administration, or an Indigenous community setting is an asset but is not required.

- Experience with client service, confidential information, scheduling, data entry, Microsoft Office, or electronic filing systems is an asset.

Skills and Competencies
