Finance Manager

Capital Rentals, Ottawa, ON | Full-time, onsite with some work from home | Starting at $75,000 per year

About us

Capital Rentals is an established Ottawa company operating residential rental properties alongside related real estate operations. We're a lean, hands-on team, and we're looking for a trusted finance leader to work directly with our CEO.

The role

You will own the company's finances across all of our operations, with a focus on property management. You'll report directly to the CEO, supervise our bookkeeper and lead property manager, and oversee an affiliated business unit that has its own dedicated team. This is an existing position that we are looking to fill now.

What you'll do

- Oversee day-to-day accounting, month-end close and financial reporting for multiple related companies Manage property-level budgets, rent collection and arrears, payables and cash flow
- Supervise our bookkeeper and lead property manager
- Oversee the finances and performance of an affiliated business unit and its team
- Coordinate with our external accountant, lenders and government agencies, including GST/HST and CRA matters
- Prepare budgets, cash flow projections and financial forecasts,



and give the CEO transparent, timely information to support decisions
- Strengthen controls, processes and reporting as the business grows

What we're looking for

- Several years of accounting or finance experience, ideally in property management or real estate Experience managing the books of more than one business at a time
- Experience supervising staff, including a bookkeeper
- Experience preparing financial forecasts and budgets
- A self-starter who works independently and takes full ownership of results
- Agile and adaptable: comfortable shifting priorities and wearing several hats on a lean team Integrity, discretion and a high standard of professionalism
- A professional designation (such as CPA, CFA or CPM) is an asset but not required
- Experience with construction accounting, GST/HST or payroll is a bonus
