Fish Filleters & Tuna Loiners - Seafood Processing
Vancouver, BC | Full-Time, Permanent | On-Site
$25.00–$28.00/hour + Extended Medical & Dental Perks The Opportunity
Vorollo is partnering with an established organization within British Columbia's commercial seafood industry to recruit experienced Fish Filleters and Tuna Loiners for its South Vancouver processing facility.
We are currently hiring for two separate positions: Fish Filleter and Tuna Loiner. Candidates are not required to have experience in both.
We're looking for skilled seafood-processing professionals with experience in either:
- Commercial Fish Filleting - using strong knife skills to fillet, trim and prepare fish efficiently while maintaining quality and maximizing product yield; or
- Tuna Loining - using a band saw to break down whole frozen tuna into loins and portions while maintaining a high level of precision, consistency and yield.
If you're highly skilled in either area and looking for secure, full-time employment with an established seafood operation, we'd like to hear from you.
Fish Filleter
As a Fish Filleter, you'll work with a variety of seafood products and species in a fast-paced commercial processing environment.
The facility processes species including salmon, halibut, black cod/sablefish, lingcod, other groundfish, tuna and herring.
You do not need experience with every species processed at the facility. Strong commercial filleting skills are transferable, and experienced candidates can be trained on specific species, cuts, products and customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Fillet and process fish according to product specifications, customer requirements and quality standards.
- Perform clean, accurate and efficient cuts while maximizing product yield and minimizing waste.
- Trim, portion, clean and prepare seafood products as required.
- Handle whole fish and processed seafood safely and efficiently.
- Assess product quality and identify defects, inconsistencies or other quality concerns.
- Maintain consistent speed, accuracy and workmanship in a high-volume processing environment.
- Properly handle and maintain knives and other processing tools.
- Follow food-safety, sanitation, quality-control and workplace-safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe workstation.
- Support other seafood-processing and production activities as required.
Filleter Experience We're Looking For
- Current or recent commercial fish-filleting experience.
- Strong hands-on knife skills with the ability to fillet efficiently, accurately and consistently.
- Experience within a seafood-processing plant, fish-processing facility, fish market, seafood-production environment or similar commercial operation.
- Experience filleting salmon, halibut, black cod/sablefish, lingcod, groundfish or other commercially processed species is particularly relevant.
- Strong understanding of product quality, yield and waste reduction.
- Ability to maintain production pace without sacrificing accuracy or product quality.
The priority is finding a genuinely skilled commercial filleter. General seafood-production or packaging experience without actual commercial filleting and knife experience is not sufficient on its own.
Tuna Loiner
As a Tuna Loiner, you'll specialize in breaking down whole frozen tuna using a band saw and preparing clean, consistent loins and portions according to product specifications.
This is a skilled production position requiring direct tuna-loining experience, strong band-saw proficiency and an excellent understanding of product yield.
Responsibilities
- Operate a band saw to safely and efficiently break down whole frozen tuna into loins.
- Perform clean, precise loining cuts while maximizing usable product yield.
- Trim and portion tuna according to product and quality specifications.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and consistency across cuts and finished product.
- Minimize unnecessary product loss and waste while maximizing yield.
- Maintain production pace without sacrificing precision, yield or product quality.
- Operate a band saw safely, confidently and efficiently in a commercial production environment.
- Follow proper seafood-handling, food-safety, sanitation and workplace-safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe workstation.
- Support overall production flow as required.
Tuna Loiner Experience We're Looking For
- Direct hands-on experience loining tuna.
- Experience breaking down whole frozen tuna using a band saw.
- Strong proficiency operating a band saw within a commercial seafood-processing or production environment.
- Robust understanding of product yield, portioning, product handling and quality standards.
- Ability to produce clean, accurate and consistent cuts while minimizing product loss.
- Ability to maintain production pace without sacrificing yield, accuracy or quality.
- Previous experience within a fast-paced seafood-processing environment.
What We're Looking For Across Both Positions Regardless of which position you're applying for, we're looking for people who:
- Take pride in the quality of their work.
- Understand the importance of yield, accuracy, consistency and product quality.
- Can work efficiently within a high-volume production environment.
- Are comfortable working in a refrigerated seafood-processing facility.
- Can perform physical and repetitive production work throughout the shift.
- Follow food-safety, sanitation and workplace-safety requirements.
- Work effectively as part of a production team.
- Are reliable, consistent and have a robust work ethic.
- Are looking for stable,
long-term employment rather than short-term or seasonal work.
Candidates with experience in both commercial fish filleting and tuna loining are highly relevant, but experience in both is not required.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
- Consistent full-time hours
Compensation & Benefits
- $25.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated ability.
- Full-time, permanent employment.
- Consistent daytime schedule.
- Extended medical and dental benefits after six months.
- Stable, long-term employment with an established seafood operation.
- Opportunity to learn additional species, cuts and processing techniques.
- Opportunity to take on increased responsibility and potentially progress into leadership positions over time.
Interview & Practical Assessment Qualified candidates will be invited to an on-site interview and practical assessment at the South Vancouver processing facility.
The interview will include a discussion of your previous seafood-processing experience, including your knowledge of species, cuts, processing methods, product quality, yield and product handling.
Candidates will complete a hands-on assessment relevant to the position for which they are being considered:
Fish Filleters will be assessed on commercial knife skills, technique, speed, accuracy, yield and product handling.
Tuna Loiners will be assessed on their ability to break down whole frozen tuna using a band saw, including band-saw proficiency, technique, accuracy, consistency, product handling and yield.
The practical assessment allows the team to evaluate actual hands-on ability rather than relying solely on a resume or stated experience.
