Food Science & Digital Product Specialist

Westpoint Naturals | Port Coquitlam, BC

Job type: Part-time, 25–30 hours per week, with potential to grow

Term: Initial six-month position, with potential for extension

Help us build the next generation of ingredient intelligence.

Westpoint Naturals is an established Canadian natural food company specializing in baking ingredients, herbs and spices, functional foods and specialty pantry ingredients.

We're building something new.

Ingredient Intelligence™ is a digital platform designed to give consumers access to meaningful information about the ingredients they purchase, far beyond what can fit on a product label.

Through a QR code on Westpoint packaging, consumers will be able to explore product origins, traceability, nutritional composition, ingredient functionality, substitutions, technical comparisons and practical usage information.

We're looking for someone with a strong foundation in food science who is equally curious about digital technology.

This is an unusual opportunity to combine food science, research, technical writing, digital product development and ecommerce.

What you'll do

Ingredient research and technical content

- Research ingredient composition, nutritional characteristics, functional properties and practical applications.
- Develop accurate, accessible technical information for our ingredient database.
- Explain the science behind ingredients. For example, how psyllium works in gluten-free baking or why potato starch and potato flour are not interchangeable.
- Research ingredient substitutions, usage ratios, processing differences and formulation considerations.
- Review supplier specifications, certificates of analysis and other technical documentation.
- Work with our quality assurance team to organize product origin, traceability and production information.
- Develop structured content for our KNOW IT, USE IT,

SWAP IT and UNDERSTAND IT sections.
- Document credible scientific and technical sources and identify information requiring further verification.

Digital product development

- Help organize and populate the Ingredient Intelligence website.
- Work with our website tools to build consistent ingredient pages.
- Develop searchable product information, comparison tables and interactive educational content.
- Assist with testing QR code functionality, navigation and mobile usability.
- Identify opportunities to make complex ingredient information easier to understand and use.

Ecommerce and digital growth

- Help improve product information and search visibility on our Shopify website.
- Identify opportunities for organic traffic growth through ingredient-specific searches.
- Support product page improvements, SEO and conversion experiments.
- Use website analytics to understand which ingredients and information consumers are seeking.

What we're looking for
- Education in food science, food technology, nutrition science or a related field. Current senior students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong understanding of food ingredients, chemistry, functionality and nutrition.
- Excellent research skills and ability to evaluate the credibility of technical information.
- Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into transparent, practical language.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable learning digital platforms,

content management systems and new technologies.
- Independent, curious and resourceful.

Additional assets

- Experience with food formulation, product development or quality assurance.
- Knowledge of Canadian food labelling and allergen requirements.
- Experience with Shopify, website builders, SEO or digital analytics.
- Familiarity with spreadsheets, structured databases or basic web development.
- Interest in gluten-free baking, allergen-conscious foods and functional ingredients.

A note about AI We use modern digital tools, including AI, to improve productivity. However, this position requires genuine technical understanding, independent research and sound scientific judgment.

We are not looking for someone to generate large volumes of unverified AI content. Accuracy, credible sourcing and ingredient expertise are fundamental to this role.

Why join Westpoint?

You'll have the opportunity to help develop a new digital platform from its earliest stages, working directly with the company's leadership and quality assurance team.

This is a hands-on position with the potential to grow into food innovation, technical product management, digital commerce or ingredient research.

You'll help make reliable ingredient knowledge more accessible to consumers and contribute to a broader transformation of an established Canadian food company.

To apply: Please submit your resume and a brief explanation of your interest in food science and digital technology.

We welcome applicants who have built websites, developed technical content, completed food science research projects or created other work that demonstrates their abilities.

Pay: $24.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
