ABOUT SERVICEXCEL

ServiceXCEL is Vancouver Island’s quality-first HVAC and plumbing contractor, serving the corridor from Duncan to Comox, but we are still growing! We specialize in residential heating, cooling, and comfort — furnaces, fireplaces, heat pumps, water heating, and more — built on technical excellence, customer care, and our core values.

We’re a close-knit team that takes pride in our work and our community. We invest in our people, hold each other to a high standard, and want everyone here to grow.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We’re looking for a Gas Service Technician with a valid BC Class B or Class A Gas Fitter certificate and hands-on HVAC or plumbing experience, who is as good with people as they are with equipment. HVAC and Plumbing experience isn't required, but will be considered an asset to the position.

This is primarily a service and maintenance role. You’ll diagnose, service, and repair residential gas-fired equipment, including furnaces, gas fireplaces, tankless and traditional gas water heaters, gas components of dual-fuel systems, and various other equipment.

Applicants may come from an HVAC or plumbing background. Strong gas-equipment troubleshooting and service skills are essential. Additional HVAC or plumbing work will be assigned according to your experience and qualifications, and you may occasionally support our installation team.

We follow the Nexstar service system and provide the tools, training, and resources to help you succeed: present customers with explicit options, do the job right the first time, and build trust that turns first calls into long-term relationships.

Our customers expect a consistent experience from ServiceXCEL. We follow a defined process on every call so homeowners receive the same professional, positive visit regardless of which technician arrives.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

This role carries six core accountabilities:

- Service System Execution
- Follow our service process consistently on every call, from arrival through follow-up.
- Options & Sales

Present clear options using flat-rate pricing, educate homeowners, and identify opportunities for service agreements and technician-generated leads.
- Customer Experience & Brand

Deliver red-carpet service, build trust, and earn positive reviews and repeat business. Diagnose gas-equipment issues accurately and complete related HVAC or plumbing work within your qualifications. Deliver reliable repairs and minimize callbacks. Own your assigned measurables, including average sale, first-call close rate, and callback rate, and work consistently toward your targets. Maintain your truck stock, tools, and vehicle to company standards so you’re ready for every call.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

- Technical Diagnosis & Quality
- Performance Measurables
- Truck & Equipment Readiness
- Diagnose, service, and repair residential gas-fired equipment, including furnaces, fireplaces, and tankless and traditional gas water heaters.
- Perform seasonal maintenance and safety inspections to a high, documented standard.
- Complete related HVAC or plumbing service work according to your experience and qualifications.
- Present customers with clear, honest options and explain your recommendations in plain language.
- Document every job in ServiceTitan, including photos, notes, materials, and payment collected on site.
- Identify opportunities to improve customer comfort, equipment reliability, and safety.
- Handle your callbacks with ownership and care — if it’s your work, you make it right.
- Occasionally support the installation team with gas and related work as scheduling requires.
- Represent ServiceXCEL professionally in every home and every interaction.
- Participate in training, team meetings, and continuous improvement.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR: Character — our values in action

- Service: You go above and beyond, find solutions, and own the outcome for customers and teammates.
- Fun: You bring positive energy and contribute to a workplace people enjoy.
- Care: You treat customers and teammates with kindness, respect, and empathy.
- Determined: You work hard, push through challenges, own your mistakes, and keep improving.
- Team Player: You’re dependable and punctual, communicate early, and support your teammates when things change.

Experience & Qualifications

- A current, valid BC Class B or Class A Gas Fitter certificate is required.
- Hands-on HVAC or plumbing experience is a strong asset, both fields are not required, and training will be provided to learn equipment.
- At least two years of residential service experience with a solid track record.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing residential gas-fired equipment.
- Relevant service experience with gas furnaces, fireplaces, tankless water heaters, or traditional gas water heaters.
- A Red Seal in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or Plumbing is an asset, but is not required for this position.
- Ability to explain findings and service options clearly and professionally to homeowners.

- A valid BC driver’s licence and a clean five-year driver’s abstract.
- Comfort using mobile technology for dispatch and job documentation; we use ServiceTitan.
- A satisfactory criminal record check is required.

COMPENSATION $30–$45 per hour, plus performance pay.

Performance pay is earned on top of your hourly wage.

Once you’re trained in our system and signed off by the Service Manager, you become eligible for our performance pay program. It rewards sales performance, service agreement and membership sign-ups, and technician-generated leads — earned by giving customers honest, valuable options and doing right by them.

More experience in HVAC and or Plumbing equates to higher wages.

For a technician performing well, this typically adds around $12,000 per year above hourly wages, with roughly $20,000 within reach for top performers. Full details are provided at offer.
