POSITION: Heavy Equipment Operator (Airport)

STATUS: Full-Time Permanent Position

SALARY: According to the Salary Scale

END OF POSTING: October 20, 2026 at 5:00p.m The Heavy Equipment Operator (Airport) is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe, effective and appropriate manner in order to ensure safe and roadways at the airport. The Heavy Equipment Operator is also responsible for the general operation and maintenance of the airport, including the airport facility and equipment, along with other related duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Machinery operating responsibilities

- Operate heavy, motorized equipment used in maintenance operations in a safe and effective way according to all relevant regulations.

- Maintain accurate equipment logs; record and maintain data.

Maintenance, operations and inspection responsibilities

- Responsible for the general cleanliness and maintenance of the airport including all components of the runway, terminal, and garage, as well as machinery. Perform related tasks.

- Inspect equipment to ensure it is well maintained and in good working order. Ensure that equipment is used responsibly and remains ready for operation.

- Conduct repairs of machinery, as well as motorized and mechanical equipment.

- Keep records of airport maintenance issues. Report issues to Manager and assist with investigations into property damage.





- Operate heavy vehicles and other types of equipment in accordance with established safety procedures.

- Act as a firefighter when required.

Additional responsibilities

- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.

- Perform other duties as required.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education and certification

- High School Diploma with additional training related to heavy machinery operation

Specialized training with Transport Canada

- Valid Class 1 Drivers license

- Must be willing to obtain certification for use of various types of heavy equipment

Experience:

- One to three years of relevant experience

Languages

- Fluency in Cree and English

- Fluency in French is an asset

Knowledge and abilities:

- Knowledge of heavy machinery equipment and operation

- Customer focused and service oriented.

- Proven ability to communicate effectively.

- Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality.

- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.

- Proven organizational skills.

- Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office products.
