About Prominent Homes

Prominent Homes is a family-owned residential homebuilder based in Calgary, Alberta, founded in 1990. We've grown from a small local builder into a company building 120+ homes a year across single-family, duplex, and townhome communities — with a clear plan to scale past 150+ homes next year. We're led by our second-generation President, Pal Shergill, who has spent 30+ years in every part of this business before taking the seat.

Decisions here are made close to the ground, hands-on, and accountable — not layered in bureaucracy.

Our current employee engagement score (eNPS) is 75+, a level most companies never get close to, and it's a company-wide goal every leader is accountable for.

The Prospect The Intermediate Production Drafter will be responsible for preparing complete, accurate, and code-compliant working drawings and plot plans for residential wood-frame construction. This role is ideal for a drafter with 5–10 years of Canadian residential drafting experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values precision, and wants to contribute meaningfully to the homebuilding process.

You will work under moderate supervision from the Senior Drafter, collaborate with various internal departments, and stay current on industry standards and code requirements.

Key Responsibilities

● Develop comprehensive working drawings (WD) based on pre-approved stock models, architectural control (AC) guidelines, PH specifications, and customer selections.

● Generate site-specific plot plans (PP) considering grading, overland drainage, side entrances, easements, porches, decks, and basement development requirements.

● Interpret and integrate Design & Price Requests (DPR), Change Orders (CO), and Schedule A/B addenda into construction documentation.

● Coordinate and arrange necessary supplementary documents: electrical layouts, joist/truss profiles, energy modeling, window schedules, and engineering letters.

● Ensure compliance with municipal Land Use Bylaws, Building Code (NBC – Alberta Edition 2023), Architectural Guidelines, and Building Permit requirements.

● Finalize and submit documentation packages for AC, Development Permit (DP), and Building Permit (BP) approvals.

● Issue For Construction (IFC) drawing packages for use by field crews and trade partners.

● Attend weekly Drafting/Sales coordination meetings and monthly drafting standards meetings to support schedule alignment, workload balancing, and CAD consistency.

● Prepare internal Drafting Reconciliation (DR) forms to clarify design concerns at key review stages.

● Support Interior Design (ID) team by processing and integrating homeowner-selected customizations into drawings.

● Maintain exterior colour schemes database and track changes to architectural product offerings.

● Stay current with product innovations, material specs, and construction trends through seminars, trade shows, and supplier demos.

● Collaborate with stakeholders across departments—sales, estimating, design, construction, and warranty—to ensure design integrity and timeline adherence.

Qualifications

● 5–10 years of residential drafting experience in the Canadian wood-frame construction industry.

● Proficient in AutoCAD (2023 or newer); Revit experience is an asset.

● Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and civil plans with a high level of detail and accuracy.

● Excellent time management, with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a quick-paced environment.
