Marlin Resources is restarting the McKay River SAGD facility near Fort McMurray, AB, and we are assembling the operations team to lead it back to production. This is a rare opportunity to join a thermal operation at the outset.
Contract | Fly-in/Fly-out | Camp Based | 7 days on / 7 days off An Opportunity to Be In From the Start
Marlin Resources is restarting the McKay River SAGD facility, and we are staffing the control-system role that operations will rely on to get the plant back online. This is a chance to join a thermal operation at the outset.
People joining now will help stand up how maintenance work is planned, permitted, and closed out. We want fitters who have already done this on a live plant, and who will use that experience to set a workable standard here.
A restart demands commitment, adaptability and solid teamwork. In return, it offers meaningful ownership of the outcome and the chance to build a high-performing operation from the ground up.
About the Role
You will report to the Maintenance Lead. The day-to-day work is planning and executing piping jobs on an operating plant: work orders, materials, isolations, then the field work. The field work is spool removal and replacement, valve and PSV installation, flange bolt-up, and support of leak checks and hydrotests. New spools, welding, and project piping are done by qualified contractors. You will work with those crews, and with the site inspection contractor, rather than build pipe in a shop.
Responsibilities
- Raise, plan, and close piping work orders in the CMMS, including scope, materials, labour, and permits
- Walk down jobs, confirm the isolation, and have the work package ready before the tools come out
- Pull and replace spools,
and install valves, PSVs, flanges, and supports on carbon steel, stainless, and alloy systems
- Read P&IDs;, isometrics, and piping specs to confirm material, rating, and orientation
- Complete bolt-ups and torque flanges to spec, including gasket and stud replacement
- Support hydrotesting, leak checks, and turnover packages with the inspection contractor
- Coordinate with operations, welders, scaffold, insulation, and crane crews on the workfront
- Support restart, outage, and turnaround piping work
- Identify repeat failures and missing materials and put them into the work-order system
- Keep permits, isolations, and the work area closed out at the end of the job
- Maintain HSE and site competency requirements
Qualifications
- Alberta Journeyperson Pipefitter certificate, or an interprovincial Red Seal
- 5+ years in oil sands, SAGD, or heavy industrial maintenance preferred
- Live-plant experience with valves, PSVs, spool replacement, and bolt-up
- Able to plan work in a CMMS, or ready to learn the system we put in
- Able to read isometrics, P&IDs;, and piping specifications
- Turnaround or brownfield tie-in experience is an asset
- Strong work ethic, and ready for the pace of a restart
- Works well with operations, inspection, and contractor crews
- Valid industrial safety tickets, including H2S Alive, fall protection, and confined space, or willing to obtain them
