Junior Low Voltage Technician

IP Lynx Inc.

Windsor-Essex County, Ontario

Full-Time, Permanent

$22.00–$26.00 per hour, depending on experience

IP Lynx Inc. is looking for a Junior Low Voltage Technician to join our growing technical team.

This is a hands-on field position designed for someone who is mechanically inclined, dependable, comfortable using tools, and interested in building a long-term career in security, telecom, networking and low-voltage systems.

You do not need to know every system we install.

We are looking for someone with the right attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn. You will work alongside experienced technicians, assist with real commercial projects, and develop the skills needed to grow into a fully independent field technician.

We are currently expanding our technical team and may hire more than one candidate.

What You'll Be Working On

Our team works on a wide range of commercial technology systems, including:

- IP surveillance cameras
- Access control systems
- Intercom systems
- Hosted and on-premise phone systems
- Structured cabling
- Fibre optic cabling
- Networking and Wi-Fi
- Paging systems
- Video monitoring systems
- Equipment racks and network infrastructure
- Other low-voltage and commercial technology systems

This is a good opportunity for someone who likes working with their hands but also wants to learn the technical side of the industry.

What You'll Be Doing

As a junior technician, you will work alongside other members of the technical team and assist with tasks such as:
- Pulling CAT5e, CAT6, fibre and other low-voltage cabling
- Installing cable supports and pathways
- Terminating and testing network cabling
- Installing surveillance cameras
- Mounting access control readers and devices
- Installing intercom and telecom equipment
- Assisting with racks, patch panels and network equipment
- Labelling and organizing cabling
- Using ladders and lifts
- Using hand and power tools
- Assisting with troubleshooting
- Helping with basic IP and device configuration
- Cleaning and organizing job sites
- Preparing materials and equipment for projects
- Assisting senior technicians with system commissioning
- Learning how the systems we install actually work

As you gain experience, you will be given more responsibility and begin completing portions of projects independently.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:
- Shows up reliably and on time
- Is comfortable using tools
- Is mechanically inclined
- Takes pride in doing clean work
- Is willing to learn
- Can follow instructions
- Is comfortable working on ladders and lifts
- Is comfortable using computers and technology
- Has good communication skills
- Works well with others

- Can think through problems instead of immediately giving up
- Is comfortable working directly with customers
- Wants to develop into a skilled technician

You do not need to have years of security industry experience. We are willing to train the right person.

Experience That Would Be Helpful

Previous experience in any of the following would be an asset:

- Structured cabling
- Electrical
- Construction
- Telecommunications
- CCTV
- Alarm systems
- Access control
- Networking
- Audio/video
- Fibre
- Automotive electronics
- IT support
- Electronics

Someone coming from another hands-on trade or technical background may also be a outstanding fit.

Career Development

This is intended to be a career-track position, not simply a helper role.

Our goal is to help the right person progress through increasing levels of technical responsibility:

Junior Technician → Field Technician → Systems Technician → Senior / Lead Technician

As you develop your skills, you can become involved in:

- Independent installations
- Troubleshooting
- Networking
- System programming
- Access control configuration
- Surveillance system configuration
- VoIP systems
- System commissioning
- Advanced technical support
- Project ownership

Employees who develop into independent technicians will have the opportunity to move into higher technical and compensation levels.

Compensation

Starting wage: $22.00–$26.00 per hour, depending on previous experience and technical ability.

Someone with limited direct industry experience but strong aptitude may start toward the lower end of the range.

Someone with previous cabling, electrical, security, telecom or related field experience may start toward the upper end.

There is room to grow beyond this range as you develop into an independent field technician.
