WestView Learning specializes in providing engaging educational and social day programs tailored for home-schooled students as well as after school classes and school break day camps for students throughout the Cowichan Valley. Our mission is to empower each student to thrive in their learning journey through personalized support and innovative teaching methods. Our workshops and camps are learning opportunities outside the regular K-12 framework and hope to expose students to challenges in their creativity and thinking to spark new areas of interests or dig deeper in their passion areas.

Overview

We are seeking a motivated and energetic Learning Support Worker to focus on Science, Math, and Engineering subjects. In this role, you will work closely with students to enhance their understanding of complex concepts, foster a love for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), and support their overall academic growth. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young learners’ educational experiences.

Training sessions for working with our neurotypical and neurodivergent students will be provided prior to, and ongoing during employment.

Duties

- Provide one-on-one and small group sessions iwthin the day program, and after school and day camp groups in Science, Math, and Engineering topics tailored to each student’s needs under the supervision of WVL's Director of Education and/or Program Manager
- Assist students with understanding core concepts, problem-solving techniques, and practical applications of STEM subjects
- Support day students , and lead workshop and day camp participants in activities by participating in the planning and development of materials facilitating hands-on learning experiences




- Monitor participant's progress daily, communicating insights to educators or program coordinators, and recognizing when new directions are necessary to continue the creative challenges for participants
- Use technology skills to incorporate educational technology and digital resources, allow for IEP adaptations into personalized activities for participants
- Lead technology focused lessons, workshops, and day camps such as basic block coding (Scratch, MineCraft), robotics, stop motion and other topical technology centric offerings
- Adapt instructional strategies for students with neurodiverse needs to ensure inclusive learning environments
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging learning atmosphere that encourages curiosity and active participation

Skills
- Experience working with children in individual or small group settings
- Solid background in Math, Science, Engineering, Basic Computer Coding (block coding, html, java, python) or related STEM fields
- Proven tutoring or teaching experience with diverse learners
- Excellent computer skills including familiarity with MS Office 365 programs, educational software and online learning tools
- Experience working with neurodiverse learners and a willingness to extend your knowledge growing your personal toolkit of strategies
- Passion for STEM education and inspiring students to explore science, technology,



engineering, and mathematics

Daily Hours WestView Learnings Program hours change to reflect the school year. This position would fluctuate in time based on programs running and the programs that the successful employee would like to undertake. The cycle continues each year.
- October 26 to December 18 - remainder of 15 weeks Fall term supporting Day Program and after school programs - Monday-Thursday 12:00-3:30/5:30
- January 11 - March 12 - 9 weeks winter term supporting Day Program and after school programs - Monday-Thursday 12:00-3:30/5:30 and possibly Saturday 9:00 -12:00
- March 15-28 -Spring Break Camps 8:30 - 3:30 Monday to Friday
- April 6 - June 18 -11 weeks spring term supporting Day Program and after school programs - Monday-Thursday 12:00-3:30/5:30 and possibly Saturday 9:00 -12:00
- March 15-28 -Spring Break Camps, 8:30 - 3:30 Monday to Friday
- June 28 - August 27th - Summer Day Camps and/or Math Tutoring 8:30 - 3:30 Monday to Friday

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16.0 – 35.0 per week
