Job Summary

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is currently seeking a qualified instructor to teach PHOT 323/VAST 320/VAST 420 – Material Images within the Audain Faculty of Art in the Spring 2027 semester. We currently have one in-person section available, Wednesdays from 8:30AM – 3:10PM.

The topic is Image: Matter and Memory.

This 6-credit special topics course explores the photographic image as a material and spatial form. Moving beyond the conventional two-dimensional photograph, students investigate how images can be transformed, constructed, and experienced through space, material, scale, light, time, and physical processes. Through experimental approaches that draw on a range of image-making, material, and spatial practices, students explore how the relationships between image, object, and space contribute to meaning while developing conceptually driven work.

Through artistic production, research, readings, discussion, writing, and critique, students develop a self-directed body of work situated within contemporary art and theory.

Course outlines and guidance from regular faculty are provided to successful candidates.

Compensation for this 6-credit course is $16,204.49, inclusive of 4% in lieu of vacation pay and 7% in lieu of benefits.
