The Nanny Dept

Calgary

The New Mummy Company supports families through pregnancy and the early stages of parenthood. We offer prenatal, birth, and postpartum services, including private newborn care nursing, in several Canadian cities. Families trust our care, which brings us steady referrals and returning clients. Our nurses, midwives, and postpartum doulas pick shifts that suit their own schedules.

The Role

We're looking for caring Registered Nurses (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with recent hands-on experience in postpartum, labour and delivery, NICU, or pediatrics. You'll join our growing team providing private newborn care to families across Calgary and surrounding areas.

This is an independent contractor position. You'll work in clients' homes, helping families through the first weeks with a newborn through hands-on care, parent education, and support tailored to each family.

Most shifts are overnight. Your focus is keeping the baby safe and well cared for so new parents can rest and recover.

What You'll Do

- Provide overnight newborn care, including feeding, diapering, soothing, and monitoring
- Support and guide parents with breastfeeding, pumping, and formula feeding
- Help set up safe sleep routines suited to the baby's development
- Educate, reassure, and emotionally support parents during the postpartum period
- Watch for infant health concerns and escalate them promptly
- Act professionally, respectfully, and confidentially in every client's home
- Follow current best practices for newborn care and secure infant sleep

What You Need

- Active registration in good standing as an RN with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), or as an LPN with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA)
- At least 2 years of experience caring for newborns and infants in a nursing or clinical setting, within the last 3 years (required)
- Clear communication and confidence coaching new parents
- Patience, compassion, and comfort working on your own in private homes
- Reliable availability for shifts across Calgary and surrounding areas
- Valid CPR-C certification, renewed annually
- Valid driver's licence and personal vehicle (preferred, given overnight shifts)
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada (no sponsorship available)
- Vulnerable Sector Check, current or willing to obtain, renewed annually

Schedule Flexible. Work with us alongside your current job, or take on more full-time contracts.

Pay

Rates depend on experience and qualifications. The top rate of $50.00/hour applies only to RNs and $45.00/hour to LPNs hired by clients, subject to insurance coverage. Non-medical roles (night nanny) are paid at a lower rate. These non-medical roles make up most of our available work and are the busiest part of the business.

Work Location: In person

We welcome applications from internationally educated nurses, pediatric professionals, and OB/GYN specialists. Canadian experience isn't required; relevant international experience counts.

Every application is reviewed by a person on our hiring team. We don't use automated screening.

Pay: $25.00-$50.00 per hour

Experience

- recent newborn care: 2 years (required)

Work Location: In person
