Optometric Assistant – Optical Dispensary

About the Role

Are you passionate about eye care, eyewear, and helping patients find the perfect pair of glasses? We are looking for a friendly, motivated, and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant with a strong focus on optical dispensing to join our team!

Our clinic is committed to providing exceptional patient care in a welcoming and professional environment. We are looking for someone who enjoys working directly with patients, has a passion for eyewear, and is confident assisting with frame selection, lens recommendations, and dispensing.

While this position is primarily focused on the optical dispensary, the ideal candidate will also be comfortable supporting pre-testing, reception, and general clinic operations when needed.

Responsibilities

Optical Dispensing & Patient Care

- Assist patients with frame selection based on their prescription, lifestyle, and personal preferences
- Recommend appropriate lens options, coatings, and optical products to meet individual patient needs
- Take accurate optical measurements and assist with fitting and dispensing eyeglasses
- Perform frame adjustments, minor repairs, and troubleshoot eyewear concerns
- Educate patients on lens options, eyewear maintenance, and proper care
- Process optical orders and ensure accuracy of prescriptions and measurements
- Assist with contact lens dispensing and patient education, including insertion and removal techniques
- Provide exceptional customer service while building positive, long-term patient relationships
- Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming optical dispensary

Clinical & Administrative Support

- Assist with preliminary testing, including retinal imaging, visual field testing, and tonometry
- Prepare patients for examinations and support optometrists as needed




- Assist with reception duties, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and processing payments
- Verify insurance coverage and assist with billing
- Work collaboratively with the clinic team to ensure a smooth and positive patient experience

Qualifications

- Previous optical dispensing experience is strongly preferred
- Experience with frame styling, lens recommendations, and eyewear adjustments is considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of optical products, lens types, and coatings
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable discussing optical products and making recommendations based on patient needs
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinic environment
- Friendly, professional, and team-oriented attitude
- Previous optometric assistant or healthcare experience is an asset
- Willingness to assist in different areas of the clinic when needed

Schedule & Employment Details

- Job Type: Full-time
- Schedule: 8-hour shifts, including evenings
- Availability: Monday to Sunday
- Work Location: In person
