We're seeking a compassionate and experienced caregiver to support an energetic, independent-minded woman in her late 70s who values her autonomy and loves staying active. She's a vibrant personality who enjoys conversation, staying busy around the home, and maintaining her sense of control over her daily life.

About the Client: Our client is a former government supervisor with a strong, take-charge personality. She loves chatting about her career and childhood, enjoys food, word games, magazines, and personal grooming activities like getting her nails done. She's currently experiencing some cognitive changes, including occasional disorientation (particularly waking at night thinking she needs to go to work) and memory challenges.

She recently returned from an extended stay in Jamaica and is very happy to be back in her own home. She has a live-in helper (Norma) who handles cooking, cleaning, and laundry during the week, so the caregiver's focus will be entirely on supervision, companionship, and medication support.

Responsibilities:

- Help client with morning routine, and onto transportation for her day program 3 mornings per week
- Provide supervision for safety, particularly during overnight shifts when disorientation may occur
- Offer gentle redirection and reassurance when needed, especially if she wakes confused at night
- Assist with medication reminders and management
- Encourage participation in activities she enjoys (tidying, folding, light tasks that make her feel helpful)
- Engage in meaningful conversation and companionship
- Support meal times by encouraging her to come to the table (she may get distracted)
- Occasional transportation for errands or appointments




- Use a collaborative approach that allows her to feel she's making decisions and maintaining control

What We're Looking For:

- Experience with cognitive support and dementia/memory care
- Calm, patient demeanor with excellent communication skills
- Cultural sensitivity and ideally someone from a similar background (Jamaican or Caribbean preferred)
- Mature caregiver who can relate well to seniors
- Ability to provide gentle guidance while respecting independence
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative
- English speaking
- Valid driver's license for occasional outings

CAD$27.00/hr

Additional Considerations

Client prefers a caregiver who is culturally similar (Jamaican background preferred), mature in age, and able to let the client feel in control and make her own decisions. Client is energetic, loves to chat about her past work as a government supervisor, enjoys shopping, travel, eating, cleaning, folding, word games, magazines, books, and getting her nails done. She may wake around 3:30 AM thinking she needs to go to work and will need gentle reorientation.

She has returned from Jamaica and is happy to be back in her own home. A separate helper handles cooking, cleaning, and laundry, so the caregiver should focus entirely on the client's supervision, companionship, and safety.
