This is a full time position within the plumbing division of the Maintenance Department working with a dedicated team to maintain, install, and service a wide variety of plumbing infrastructures across The Butchart Gardens property. This position works alongside our other departments to support their unique needs and systems. The successful candidate will work both indoors and outdoors, in inclement weather in all seasons.

DUTIES:

· Work under the direction of the Plumbing and Water Delivery Specialists.

· Assist with maintaining extensive water systems, both potable and irrigation.

· Assist with maintaining The Gardens stormwater and sewer system.

· Maintain large and small fountains along with associated equipment and other water features, including swimming pools.

· Install and maintain a variety of equipment found within commercial establishments such as restaurants, office buildings, and greenhouse complexes.

· Maintain boilers and hydronic heating systems

· Maintain various types of gas equipment

· Ensure compliance of CRD Cross Connection Control Program and maintenance/testing of related equipment.

· Assist with compliance of CRD Wastewater Source Control Bylaws and maintenance of related equipment.

· Assist The Gardens to remain in compliance with applicable Plumbing and Gas Codes.

· Maintain safe work practices.

· Work with other departments and staff in non-plumbing related activities

REQUIREMENTS:

· Holder of a valid Plumbing TQ with valid Gasfitters Certificate of Qualification. (Recognized in BC)

· A registered 3rd or 4th year apprentice will be considered.

· Certification as a backflow Assembly tester, or be willing to obtain certification.

· Understanding of and adherence to WHMIS and WorkSafe BC Regulations. Conversant with BC Plumbing and Building Codes, as well as all other applicable codes, regulations and standards.

· Valid driver’s license with clean drivers abstract

· Experience in all phases of the plumbing trade.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.





· Possess analytical/problem solving skills.

· Knowledge of fire sprinkler and refrigeration systems would be an asset.

· Ability to work unsupervised.

· Must be capable of physical work in inclement weather. (Physical assessment required).

· Ability to follow company policies and procedures and support the management team.

· Valid cross connection control tester certificate would be an asset.

This is a full-time, year-round position with a 6-month probationary period. Shifts will primarily be scheduled Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:00pm with occasional overtime, evening and weekend work required. This position is also contingent upon successful completion of a physical assessment and clear driver’s abstract.

We offer competitive wages and renumeration up to $40.50 per hour, dependent on experience and qualifications of the candidate. The position will include 3 weeks of paid vacation, (plus an additional 2 weeks paid staff holidays during The Gardens closure each year), health and dental benefits, health care spending account, and matching RRSP plus 1% upon completion of a successful 6-month probationary period.
