Production Lead Hand - Seafood Processing
Vancouver, BC | Full-Time, Permanent | On-Site
$70,000–$75,000 to start + comprehensive benefits The Opportunity
Vorollo is partnering with an established organization within British Columbia's commercial seafood industry to identify an experienced Production Lead Hand - Seafood Processing for a confidential search based in Vancouver.
This is a highly hands-on leadership role for someone who knows seafood production from firsthand experience and understands what it takes to keep a production floor organized, productive and moving.
The ideal candidate has spent several years working directly in seafood production or processing and has developed into someone others naturally look to for direction.
You may already be a Lead Hand or Supervisor, or you may be an experienced production professional who is ready to take the next step into formal leadership.
Either way, you've done the work yourself.
You understand seafood species and products. You understand the pace and demands of production. You know how to organize a floor, communicate expectations and keep people focused on what needs to get done.
Most importantly, you lead by example.
This isn't a position for someone who wants to stand back and supervise. You'll work directly alongside the production team and be expected to step into the line wherever needed.
What You'll Be Doing
As Production Lead Hand, you'll help take ownership of the production floor and ensure the team is prepared, organized and ready to perform each day.
Your responsibilities will include
- Arriving ahead of production to help ensure the floor, equipment, people and materials are prepared for the day's requirements.
- Helping organize daily production priorities, staffing and workflow before production begins.
- Making sure employees understand their responsibilities, production expectations and priorities for the day.
- Providing hands-on leadership and direction to production employees throughout the shift.
- Leading by example and maintaining a strong presence on the production floor.
- Working directly alongside production employees and stepping into different positions on the line whenever additional support is required.
- Helping keep production moving efficiently across different products and species.
- Applying practical knowledge of seafood species, products, handling and processing requirements.
- Monitoring workflow, productivity, quality and overall floor performance.
- Identifying bottlenecks or production issues and helping resolve them quickly.
- Training new employees and helping existing employees improve their skills and performance.
- Helping ensure employees follow established production processes and expectations.
- Supporting food safety, quality, sanitation and workplace safety standards.
- Communicating staffing, production and operational issues to production and plant management.
- Helping coordinate production setup,
changeovers and end-of-day requirements.
- Ensuring the floor is properly organized and production requirements are completed before leaving for the day.
- Staying when necessary to help ensure the operation is properly wrapped up and prepared for what comes next.
- Taking ownership of the floor and stepping into whatever needs to be done to support the team and operation.
What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who has built their experience on the production floor.
Ideally, you'll bring approximately 5–8+ years of hands-on seafood production or processing experience, although directly relevant experience and capability matter more than an exact number of years.
You may currently be working as a:
- Production Lead Hand
- Team Lead
- Production Supervisor
- Senior Production Worker
- Seafood Processor with informal leadership responsibility
- Similar hands-on production leader
We're looking for:
- Significant hands-on seafood production or processing experience.
- Strong practical knowledge of seafood species, products and handling requirements.
- The ability to perform and understand different positions across a seafood production line.
- Previous experience leading, supervising, training or providing direction to production employees.
- A strong understanding of production workflow, efficiency and floor organization.
- The ability to communicate daily expectations clearly and keep employees focused on production priorities.
- The confidence to address issues and provide direction when standards or expectations aren't being met.
- Strong training and coaching capabilities.
- The ability to identify production problems and respond quickly and practically.
- A willingness to arrive early, stay when required and take ownership of ensuring the operation is properly set up and completed.
- Reliability, accountability and a strong work ethic.
- A genuine willingness to remain hands-on and work shoulder-to-shoulder with the production team.
Forklift experience is considered an asset.
How You Lead Matters
We're looking for someone who earns respect through their actions.
You're willing to be one of the first people on the floor and, when the operation requires it, one of the last people out.
You don't ask your team to do work you wouldn't do yourself.
If a line needs help, you step in.
If someone doesn't understand what's expected, you show them.
If production falls behind, you help get it back on track.
If something isn't being done properly, you address it.
And before the day is finished,
you make sure the work is complete and the operation is left in the condition it needs to be in.
You understand that being a Lead Hand isn't just about directing people. It's about setting the standard for the people around you.
Career Growth For an experienced seafood production professional, this is an opportunity to turn years of hands-on knowledge into the next stage of your career.
You'll work closely with experienced production and plant leadership while continuing to develop your capabilities in people leadership, production planning, workflow management and broader plant operations.
For the right person, there is meaningful opportunity to continue progressing into increasingly senior production and plant leadership positions over time.
Compensation & Advantages The anticipated compensation package includes:
- $70,000–$75,000 starting salary, depending on experience and directly relevant seafood production background.
- Comprehensive health and benefits package.
- Long-term professional development and advancement opportunities.
- Additional employee programs and benefits associated with the position.
