The Opportunity

Remote, Canada • 6-Month Contract • Edmonton/Calgary Preferred • Occasional Travel A publicly funded organization is seeking an experienced QA Automation Contractor to establish and mature its automated testing capability. You’ll transition manual regression testing to scalable Playwright automation, build a maintainable framework, establish QA standards and enable internal teams to sustain and expand the capability after the engagement.

What You'll Do

- Review manual regression tests and identify high-value automation opportunities.
- Translate business requirements and test cases into effective automated tests.
- Design, develop and maintain automated tests using Playwright.
- Build and expand regression suites covering critical business processes.
- Create reusable automation components, utilities and framework features.
- Troubleshoot automated tests to improve reliability and maintainability.
- Assess current testing practices and recommend automation improvements.
- Establish a scalable Playwright framework, coding standards and governance.
- Define automation selection criteria, coverage targets and priorities.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and delivery processes.
- Establish repeatable QA practices across automated and functional testing.
- Improve test planning, test-case design, regression and defect practices.
- Create standards and templates for automation-ready test assets.
- Develop documentation, guidelines and training materials for internal teams.




- Coach team members and facilitate knowledge-transfer workshops.

What We Are Looking For

- Solid hands-on Playwright experience building automation frameworks from scratch.
- Experience transitioning organizations from manual to automated testing.
- Experience developing QA standards, methodologies and governance practices.
- Strong experience converting manual regression tests into automation.
- Experience translating business requirements into automated test coverage.
- Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipeline integration.
- Experience with API testing and test automation.
- Familiarity with Gherkin and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD).
- Experience working with complex business applications and workflows.
- Strong documentation, coaching and knowledge-transfer capabilities.
- Experience establishing sustainable automation practices within organizations.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot or Claude.
- Experience developing or using AI agents to support QA or development work.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and process-improvement skills.
- Public-sector, regulated or high-governance experience is an asset.
