Archetype Global 3D
Saskatoon
Archetype Global 3D is an innovative research and development startup focused on next-generation concrete 3D printing technology. Still in the early stages of startup development, we are working to revolutionize the concrete 3D printing platform through a new approach to robotics. Our focus is on improving reliability, performance, and usability while transforming ambitious engineering concepts into a working construction-scale system.
We are seeking an R&D; Engineer to work closely with our lead engineer on the mechanical and electrical development of our prototype. This is a hands-on role involving design refinement, component sourcing, assembly, testing, and the detailed documentation required to transition designs into repeatable manufacturing processes.
We do not expect applicants to arrive with specialized experience in concrete 3D printing or the niche technologies behind our platform. We expect to teach and support candidates as they learn. What matters is a driven, resourceful individual who is eager to contribute, work closely with a small team, take ownership of challenging problems, and expand their professional capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
· Carry out cross-disciplinary engineering work across mechanical and electrical systems.
· Assist the lead engineer in revising, optimizing, and improving existing product designs while preserving the core engineering vision.
· Source mechanical and hardware components, coordinate with manufacturers, organize and manage parts in the workshop, and construct and test new assemblies.
· Plan and conduct controlled experiments, evaluate results, and recommend evidence-based design improvements.
· Assume responsibility for prototype parts spreadsheets, including detailed component-level tracking,
and maintain thorough build and assembly instructions for manufacturers.
· Troubleshoot performance and reliability issues and implement design improvements as necessary.
· Maintain accurate project documentation, technical records, and design revisions.
· Assist with machine operation, testing, and the execution of concrete 3D printing projects; develop practical familiarity with the complete machine.
· Participate in outdoor construction-site operations to execute concrete 3D prints during the spring and summer months.
Qualifications & Skills
· Experience with 3D mechanical CAD, such as Fusion 360, including understanding, modifying, and continuing another engineer’s designs within large assemblies.
· Basic proficiency in electrical system design with motors, sensors, and controllers.
· Basic programming skills in C++, Python, or MATLAB.
· Robust practical problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
· Exceptional attention to detail, including tracking individual fasteners and other small prototype components.
· Experience designing components for outdoor conditions and environmental exposure.
· Ability to collaborate effectively in a small team, take initiative, and learn unfamiliar technologies.
Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Engineering Physics.
· At least 1 year of relevant experience.
Why Join Us?
Based in the heart of Saskatoon,
