About the role

Senior Circle Support Inc. is seeking an experienced Registered Practical Nurse to train and support our nurses providing peritoneal dialysis care in patients’ homes.

The primary focus is staff education, hands-on instruction, mentorship, and competency assessment. We are looking for someone with strong peritoneal dialysis experience who can explain procedures clearly, provide constructive feedback, and help nurses develop safe, consistent clinical practices.

Responsibilities

- Provide orientation and refresher training to nurses supporting home peritoneal dialysis patients.
- Teach and reinforce approved peritoneal dialysis procedures, infection prevention practices, equipment use, and documentation requirements.
- Demonstrate clinical skills and observe nurses during supervised practice and scheduled patient visits.
- Reinforce adherence to prescribed treatments, patient-specific care plans, and organizational policies.
- Assess learning needs and document competency assessments using approved checklists.
- Provide clear, respectful feedback and identify when additional training or supervised practice is needed.
- Teach nurses to recognize and promptly report changes in patient condition, treatment concerns, and equipment issues.
- Review nursing documentation as part of staff education and provide feedback on accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain training records and communicate learning needs and safety concerns to the designated clinical lead.




- Assist with developing and updating training materials and competency checklists.
- Coordinate training sessions with the office.

All teaching and clinical activities must remain within the successful candidate’s professional scope, demonstrated competence, and organizational requirements.

Required qualifications

- Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with entitlement to practise.
- Recent, hands-on peritoneal dialysis experience.
- Experience teaching, precepting, mentoring, or orienting nurses.
- Strong knowledge of infection prevention, safe dialysis practices, clinical documentation, and escalation procedures.
- Ability to demonstrate procedures, assess clinical skills, and provide constructive feedback.
- Robust communication, organization, and professional judgment.
- Ability to travel within Durham Region for scheduled training and staff assessments.

Preferred qualifications
- Home care or community nursing experience.
- Experience with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and automated peritoneal dialysis (APD).
- Familiarity with Vantive/Baxter dialysis equipment.
- Experience developing training materials or competency assessment tools.

Compensation and scheduling
- $32–$36 per hour, depending on relevant dialysis and teaching experience.
- Casual hours based on training needs.
- Training sessions and assessments arranged in advance.
