Assistant Professor in Law and Society / Sociology of Law
University of Toronto · Department of Sociology, University of Toronto Mississauga
Apply by 19 Oct 2026
About This Opportunity
The University of Toronto Mississauga seeks a tenure-stream Assistant Professor whose sociolegal research advances Law and Society or Sociology of Law and who can contribute quantitative or mixed-methods teaching. Applications close on 19 October 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
The Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto Mississauga is recruiting a tenure-stream scholar whose research advances sociological understanding of law across the breadth of sociolegal scholarship. The search is open to theoretical, comparative, historical and transnational approaches, but candidates must also demonstrate expertise in quantitative methods and/or mixed-methods research and the ability to teach undergraduate quantitative or research methods. The faculty member will build an independent, externally funded research program, teach in the UTM undergraduate curriculum, contribute to the Criminology, Law & Society program, and participate in the tri-campus Graduate Department of Sociology through graduate teaching and supervision. The department's broader research environment spans inequality, race and ethnicity, migration, gender and sexuality, organizations, political sociology, health, family and culture,
creating scope for interdisciplinary sociolegal work. The position therefore combines substantive scholarship on law and society with explicit methodological responsibilities in quantitative or mixed-methods sociology.
