Position Overview

An established excavation contractor is seeking an experienced Low Rise Operator/Foreman to support low-rise residential construction projects. The successful candidate will operate various types of heavy equipment to complete excavation, grading, backfilling, material handling and site preparation for detached home and townhome developments.

The ideal candidate will have strong residential earthworks experience, the ability to operate multiple machines and a commitment to safe, accurate and productive work.

Key Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders and skid steers, based on experience and project requirements.
Complete basement and foundation excavation, trenching, backfilling, rough grading and site preparation.
Load trucks, move materials and manage stockpiles to support efficient site operations.
Read and interpret site plans, excavation drawings, grade stakes and elevation requirements.
Use laser levels and grade-control systems, where applicable, to achieve specified depths and grades.
Work safely around underground utilities, neighbouring properties, existing structures and restricted access areas.
Coordinate with site supervisors, ground crews, spotters,



truck drivers and other trades.
Complete daily equipment inspections, routine greasing and basic maintenance.
Report equipment defects, unsafe conditions and unexpected ground conditions promptly.
Follow site safety procedures, utility locates and project-specific instructions.

Qualifications and Experience
Demonstrated experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment on construction sites.
Previous experience in low-rise residential excavation and earthworks.
Experience with foundation excavation, backfilling, grading and truck loading.
Ability to interpret drawings and work to required grades and elevations.
Solid understanding of equipment capabilities, soil conditions and protected operating practices.
Ability to work accurately in tight spaces and around existing services and structures.
Solid communication skills and the ability to work independently or with a crew.
Reliable attendance and transportation to assigned project sites.

Working Conditions
Outdoor work on active residential construction sites.

Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
