About The Role You’ll operate a fully equipped testing van covering Tasman, Marlborough and the West Coast, delivering on-site testing, inspection, certification, repairs and servicing of lifting and height safety equipment. Alongside the technical work, you’ll actively grow the business by building solid customer relationships, identifying new opportunities and promoting our full range of Chain & Rigging products and services.
This is a genuine “own it” role with more emphasis on sales and business development than some of our other technician positions. You’ll plan and manage your own customer route, keep lifting registers accurate, handle invoicing, and work closely with the local Nelson Steel & Tube branch while reporting to the Regional Sales & Service Manager based in Christchurch. Occasional overnight travel (typically a couple of nights a month) will be required as you develop the territory.
What You’ll Do
- Perform on-site testing, certification, repairs and servicing of lifting and height safety equipment
- Manage and operate a fully equipped mobile testing van
- Plan regular customer visits across Tasman, Marlborough and the West Coast to maintain compliance and relationships
- Identify and convert sales opportunities for Chain & Rigging products and testing services
- Maintain accurate customer lifting registers, stock and invoicing
- Build new business through proactive engagement and cold calling while growing existing accounts
- Deliver excellent customer service and uphold rigorous health, safety and quality standards
What We’re Looking For
- Hands-on mechanical, trade or technical background, or strong mechanical aptitude
- Proven customer service or sales experience (or transferable relationship-building skills)
- Self-motivated and organised – comfortable working independently with remote support
- Confident communicator who can build trust with a wide range of customers
- Basic computer skills for records and reporting (full training provided)
- Willingness to develop both the technical and commercial sides of the role
