Groom & Associates is currently recruiting a Senior Advisor, Business Performance & Continuous Improvement on behalf of a well-established organization in Montreal.

This is a highly visible, cross-functional role focused on helping the organization strengthen its business performance, operational effectiveness and continuous improvement practices .

Working closely with managers, directors and senior leadership, the Senior Advisor will help translate broader organizational objectives into concrete priorities, performance indicators, action plans and improved business processes .

This is not an IT, data analyst or technical Business Intelligence position. Rather, we are looking for a strong business professional who can understand the organization from a broad, strategic perspective while remaining sufficiently hands-on to build processes, challenge existing ways of working and drive improvements across different functions.

The successful candidate will thrive in an environment where they are expected to take ownership, work autonomously and help create structure rather than simply operate within established processes.

Key Responsibilities

Business Performance & Strategic Execution

- Partner with business leaders to translate strategic and organizational objectives into clear operational priorities and action plans.
- Work directly with departments to develop meaningful KPIs, performance measures and management reporting aligned with their objectives.
- Analyze business performance, operational results and organizational trends to identify gaps, risks and opportunities.
- Help establish effective performance-management practices and ensure that indicators lead to meaningful business action.
- Develop recommendations to improve organizational effectiveness, efficiency and accountability.
- Prepare clear analyses, recommendations and executive-level presentations for senior management and, when required, the Board.

Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives across different areas of the organization.
- Analyze existing business processes and identify opportunities for simplification, optimization and waste elimination .
- Challenge existing ways of working and recommend practical solutions to improve efficiency and organizational performance.
- Map, document and redesign processes where required.
- Help departments establish more effective workflows, structures, controls and performance measures.
- Support the implementation of improvements and monitor results to ensure changes deliver the intended business outcomes.
- Apply Lean, continuous improvement and structured problem-solving principles where appropriate.

Business Analysis & Advisory
- Act as a trusted business advisor to managers, directors and senior leadership.
- Understand complex business challenges from a broader organizational perspective and translate them into practical recommendations and initiatives.
- Gather and challenge business requirements, identify underlying needs and help stakeholders define appropriate solutions.
- Evaluate initiatives from operational, financial and organizational perspectives.
- Facilitate collaboration across departments and help align stakeholders around common objectives.

- Manage multiple initiatives independently while maintaining a strong understanding of organizational priorities and interdependencies.

Business Intelligence & Decision Support
- Help the organization strengthen the use of data and Business Intelligence to support management decision-making.
- Work with business leaders to determine what information, KPIs and reporting are required to effectively manage performance.
- Translate business needs into clear requirements for dashboards, reporting tools and data solutions.
- Act as a bridge between business stakeholders and external technical resources supporting BI, AI and data implementation.
- Review and challenge proposed solutions to ensure they address the underlying business requirements.
- Interpret business information and reporting to identify trends, issues and opportunities and turn them into meaningful management insights.

The successful candidate is not expected to be the technical developer of BI, AI or data solutions. The focus is on defining business needs, challenging requirements and ensuring technical solutions support the organization's strategic and operational objectives. Corporate Initiatives, Contracts & Risk

- Contribute to corporate projects and strategic initiatives requiring business analysis, coordination and cross-functional collaboration.
- Support contract-related analysis and follow-up when required, including consideration of financial implications, performance, obligations and key deliverables.
- Contribute to Enterprise Risk Management activities and organizational risk analysis as required.
- Assess the business impacts, risks and conditions for success associated with organizational initiatives and changes.

Contract management and Enterprise Risk Management experience are considered valuable assets but are not core requirements of the position . Qualifications & Experience

- Approximately 7–10 years of relevant professional experience in business analysis, business performance, operational excellence, continuous improvement, process improvement, project management or a related field.
- Experience working in both larger, structured organizations and smaller or evolving organizations is highly valued.
- Previous experience in an SME or similarly hands-on environment is particularly relevant, including situations where the individual has had to build processes, establish structure and operate with significant autonomy.
- Strong business analysis capabilities, including the ability to understand the broader organizational picture and translate strategic objectives into concrete operational priorities.
- Demonstrated experience developing KPIs, performance measures, action plans and management reporting in partnership with business leaders.
- Strong continuous improvement and process optimization experience, including process analysis, efficiency improvement and waste elimination.
- Solid understanding of Business Intelligence from a business and decision-support perspective . The ability to define requirements and translate business needs into reporting or data solutions is more important than hands-on technical development.

- Strong business acumen with the ability to understand operational, financial and organizational considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to build processes, frameworks and structure from the ground up.
- High degree of autonomy, initiative and versatility, with the ability to independently manage multiple priorities and work across different functions.
- Excellent advisory, communication and influencing skills, with the maturity and credibility to work effectively with managers, directors and senior leadership.
- Strong synthesis and executive presentation skills, including the ability to turn complex information into clear recommendations for senior management and the Board.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and Microsoft 365.

Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations, Management, Commerce, Finance or another relevant discipline.
- Candidates combining a robust engineering or operational background with significant business experience are particularly encouraged.
- Lean experience and/or certification is highly valued.
- PMP or other recognized certifications in continuous improvement, process improvement or project management are robust assets.
- An MBA or graduate degree is considered an asset but is not required .

Additional Assets
- Experience within transportation or another operationally complex industry , particularly maritime, aviation or logistics.
- Experience in an engineering, operational excellence or process-driven environment.
- Contract management experience, particularly involving financial considerations, performance monitoring, obligations and follow-up.
- Exposure to Enterprise Risk Management (ERM).
- Experience working with external technical specialists or consultants on BI, AI, data or technology-enabled business initiatives.

The Ideal Profile The ideal candidate is a business-minded problem solver and change agent who can move comfortably between strategic discussions with senior leadership and hands-on work with individual departments. You are someone who naturally asks: What are we trying to achieve? How should we measure it? Where are the inefficiencies? What needs to change? And how do we turn that into a practical plan?

You are comfortable entering an environment where not every process or structure is already established. Rather than waiting for direction, you can assess the situation, bring structure to ambiguity, engage the right stakeholders and move initiatives forward.

Most importantly, you combine strategic thinking with practical execution and can help an organization turn its objectives into measurable, sustainable improvements.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to have a meaningful impact across an organization by working directly with leadership on business performance, operational improvement and strategic initiatives.

The role offers significant variety and visibility, with the opportunity to influence how the organization measures performance, improves its processes and translates strategic priorities into action.

The successful candidate will work with a high degree of independence while collaborating closely with management and key stakeholders across the organization.

The organization offers a collaborative environment, flexibility in working hours and a hybrid schedule of three days per week in the Montreal office .

This is a one-year contract with the possibility of extension .
