Wiklém Design
Toronto
About the Role The Wiklém Group is looking for an experienced Senior Interior Designer who can lead substantial projects, guide other designers, build strong client relationships, and work confidently with contractors, consultants, budgets, procurement, and construction.
We are an award-winning Toronto Interior Design and Design+BUILD firm specializing in condominium common-area refurbishment throughout the GTA. Our projects range from targeted renovations to complex multi-million-dollar transformations.
Our work extends well beyond traditional design. Projects involve concept development, client and Board presentations, budgeting, tendering, furniture and accessory specification and procurement, contractor coordination, construction, site problem-solving, and final delivery.
We are looking for someone who can see the whole project, make sound decisions, solve problems, and take genuine ownership from concept through completion.
What You’ll Do
As a senior member of our design team, you will lead major projects while working closely with our Creative Director and our Interior Design and Design+BUILD teams.
Responsibilities include
- Lead projects from initial brief and concept through design development, documentation, construction, and completion.
- Develop, evaluate, present, and confidently defend strong design solutions.
- Lead client and Board meetings, presentations, and challenging project conversations.
- Establish project priorities, deliverables, milestones, and schedules, and direct the work of intermediate and junior designers.
- Review drawings, specifications, finish schedules, presentations, and other project documentation.
- Oversee furniture, art, and accessory selection, specifications, budgets, purchasing, delivery, installation, and styling.
- Manage relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, suppliers, manufacturers, and trades.
- Oversee preliminary budgets and participate in pricing, tendering, bid review, procurement, and value engineering.
- Lead contractor and site meetings and resolve design, construction, material, and installation issues.
- Manage projects through construction, deficiencies, and closeout, identifying risks early and bringing forward practical solutions.
- Help strengthen project delivery, studio processes, design standards, and the development of less-experienced designers.
This is not a production-only senior design role. We are looking for someone who takes responsibility for the overall project outcome.
What We’re Looking For
Ideally, you are someone who:
- Has approximately 10+ years of progressively responsible interior design experience.
- Has independently led substantial projects from design through documentation and construction.
- Is an excellent designer with mature creative judgment and strong presentation skills.
- Is confident managing clients, Boards of Directors, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Understands construction, detailing, materials, budgets, and site realities.
- Has experience with tendering, pricing, value engineering, procurement, and construction administration.
- Has experience specifying and procuring furniture, art, and accessories.
- Can lead, mentor, and develop other designers.
- Makes sound decisions, accepts accountability, and knows when an issue genuinely requires escalation.
- Is collaborative, resourceful, solution-driven, and comfortable taking broad responsibility for a project.
Experience in condominium refurbishment, multifamily residential, hospitality, retirement/seniors living, or Design+BUILD would be particularly relevant. Direct condominium-refurbishment experience is valuable but not essential. Strong project leadership, design judgment, client relationship skills, and construction fluency are more important.
Qualifications
Required:
- Degree or diploma in Interior Design.
- Registered ARIDO member.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and relevant design/documentation software.
- Strong understanding of construction documentation and the Ontario Building Code.
- Experience with contractor coordination, tendering, budgeting, procurement, and construction administration.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and directing or mentoring other designers.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the GTA and surrounding areas.
Preferred:
- Experience with condominium, multifamily residential, hospitality, retirement/seniors living, or Design+BUILD projects.
