We are assisting our reputable client in the geoscience industry with the search for a Senior Back End Developer (C++/Python).

Location: Toronto, ON– Hybrid (2 days in the office)

Compensation & Perks: $130,000–$155,000/year plus health benefits, RRSP contributions, profit sharing, employee stock purchase plan, educational reimbursement, and more.

Role Overview:

You will be working at the forefront of geoscience innovation, collaborating with domain experts to design and optimize advanced C++ algorithms that drive cloud-based modeling workflows. You’ll also build scalable Python back-end services that deliver these high-performance solutions to up-to-date web applications. You will help shape the evolution of a cloud-based geoscience auto modeling platform leveraging machine learning to extract insights from drilling data.

Key Responsibilities:

Software Design

- Architect and design complex software applications, modules, and components.
- Apply modeling techniques aligned with established software design standards.
- Produce and communicate multiple design perspectives to meet functional, non-functional, and security requirements.
- Evaluate design alternatives and make informed trade-offs.
- Review and enhance both your own designs and those of colleagues.

Software Development

- Develop, test, document, refactor, and maintain complex programs and integration services.
- Advocate for the adoption of appropriate development methods, tools, and best practices.




- Ensure consistent use of standards and tools across the team for high-quality, maintainable outcomes.
- Collaborate with domain experts to implement geoscience algorithms optimized for performance and maintainability.
- Participate in code reviews and provide guidance to peers.

Release Management

- Plan and manage release schedules in line with business objectives.
- Coordinate release activities across multiple teams and stakeholders, ensuring quality, security, and compliance.
- Communicate release plans, progress, and results to stakeholders.
- Conduct post-release reviews and implement improvements.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python .
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable RESTful APIs, ideally using Python and FastAPI.
- Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code , CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated tests across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers using tools such as Pytest and Playwright.
- Familiarity with React and TypeScript, plus an interest in emerging development practices including AI-assisted or agent-driven workflows.

Assets:

- Experience with Flask or FastAPI.
- Front-end development experience.
- Exposure to Three.js or web-based 3D rendering.
