Experienced Equipment Operator? Looking for Steady Winter Work?
At Summit Property Group, we know that snow removal can mean unpredictable schedules, long nights, and waiting for the next snowfall. That's why we've built our operations around providing consistent hours throughout the winter.
Our established service contracts keep our crews busy during snow events and between snowfalls. In addition to plowing and snow clearing, our operators assist with parking lot scraping, sanding, salting, ice management, and other property maintenance services.
We're looking for experienced, reliable Snow Plow and Skid Steer Operators who are confident working independently, mechanically inclined, and comfortable making decisions in the field.
This isn't a position where you'll always have someone looking over your shoulder. We need operators who take ownership of their work, can troubleshoot challenges, and know how to get the job done safely and efficiently.
What Makes Summit Different?
- Consistent, Full-Time Hours: Our contracts keep our team working throughout the winter, not just when it snows.
- Paid Overtime: Winter weather can mean longer shifts, and we pay overtime for eligible hours worked.
- Year-Round Opportunities: Opportunities to transition into landscaping, grounds maintenance, and other property services beyond the winter season.
- Employee Benefits: All team members become eligible for benefits after three months of employment.
- Enhanced Benefits: Additional benefits become available after three years of service.
- Established Operations: Join a reputable Calgary company with long-standing contracts, established equipment, and a COR-certified safety program.
- Independence & Responsibility: We trust experienced operators to take initiative, make sound decisions, and take pride in their work.
- A Team That Values Reliability: We recognize the people who show up, work hard, and help keep our operations running smoothly.
The Role As a Snow Plow or Skid Steer Operator, you'll be responsible for operating equipment to maintain commercial and institutional properties throughout Calgary.
Much of our snow removal work takes place overnight or during early morning hours,
allowing us to clear parking lots and access routes before properties become busy.
You'll often work independently or alongside a small crew, with fewer resources immediately available during overnight shifts. Strong judgment, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to troubleshoot issues are essential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating snow plow trucks, skid steers, and associated snow removal attachments.
- Clearing snow from parking lots, drive lanes, access roads, and other designated areas.
- Scraping and maintaining parking lots to address compacted snow and ice buildup.
- Performing sanding, salting, and other ice management services.
- Completing scheduled maintenance and additional property services between snow events.
- Conducting daily equipment inspections, identifying mechanical concerns, and performing basic troubleshooting.
- Addressing minor equipment issues safely and independently when appropriate.
- Identifying site hazards, obstacles, and changing conditions while operating equipment.
- Communicating with supervisors regarding completed work, equipment concerns, and site conditions.
- Completing accurate service records and photo documentation.
- Maintaining a high standard of safety, efficiency, and quality workmanship.
What We're Looking For We're looking for operators who are dependable, resourceful, and confident in their abilities.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Previous experience operating snow plow trucks, skid steers, or similar heavy equipment.
- A valid driver's licence with a clean driving record.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to identify and troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
- The confidence to work independently and make sound decisions without constant supervision.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Experience navigating commercial parking lots and working around parked vehicles, curbs, and other obstacles.
- A commitment to safe equipment operation and proper equipment care.
- Positive communication skills and the ability to document completed work.
- A reliable, self-motivated attitude and willingness to take initiative.
- The ability to work outdoors in challenging winter conditions.
We're especially interested in operators who are natural problem-solvers. When something doesn't go according to plan at 2:00 AM, we need someone who can assess the situation, troubleshoot safely, communicate when necessary, and keep operations moving. Scheduling & On-Call Expectations
Snow removal is a weather-dependent service, and flexibility is a requirement of this position.
While our contracts provide consistent full-time hours throughout the winter, snow events can happen at any time.
Our operators must be available on call when snow is in the forecast, including overnights, early mornings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
What you can expect:
- Overnight and early morning shifts as a regular part of snow removal operations.
- On-call availability during forecasted snow events.
- Weekend and statutory holiday work when weather conditions require it.
- Paid overtime for eligible hours worked.
- Additional work opportunities during periods without snowfall.
- Potential for year-round employment.
We understand that winter operations require flexibility and commitment. In return, we work hard to provide our employees with reliable hours, competitive compensation, and long-term opportunities. Build a Career, Not Just a Winter Job
At Summit Property Group, we take pride in offering more than just seasonal employment.
