Kongsberg Maritime | Maritime Simulation
Build software that turns advanced simulation technology into real-world training solutions
Kongsberg Maritime is expanding its Maritime Simulation organization, MSIM, with a new product team in Halifax.
We are looking for three Senior Full Stack Software Engineers to help create applications and capabilities on top of our established maritime simulation platform. You will use platform services, REST APIs, and internal development tools to build user-facing functionality, application logic, integrations, and workflows for maritime training and simulation.
The Halifax team will include senior software engineers, a quality engineer, and a product owner. You will work closely with MSIM colleagues and specialist teams in Norway and Bulgaria, while taking strong local ownership of design, delivery, and quality.
This is an opportunity for experienced engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, making sound technical decisions, and turning product needs into maintainable software.
What you will do
Design, develop, test, and maintain full stack software for maritime training and simulation
Build application logic, workflows, and user-facing functionality on top of an established simulation platform
Integrate with platform capabilities through REST APIs and internal tools
Develop reliable backend services using C# and .NET
Create modern, intuitive, and maintainable web-based user experiences
Work with the product owner to refine requirements, identify technical options, and deliver valuable product increments
Collaborate with software engineers, architects, UX specialists, QA professionals, and maritime domain experts across locations
Contribute to technical design and make pragmatic architectural decisions within the team’s area of responsibility
Write automated tests and build quality into the development process
Participate in code reviews and promote maintainable, modular, and secure engineering practices
Diagnose issues across application, integration, and platform boundaries
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, development tooling, documentation,
and engineering standards
Help establish an effective, inclusive, and high-performing engineering culture in the new Halifax team
What we are looking for
This position supports government defense-related projects and is subject to contractual security requirements. Applicants must be Canadian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Reliability Status.
Five or more years of professional software development experience
Strong software development experience with C# and .NET
Experience developing modern web applications using React, Angular, Vue, or a comparable frontend framework
Practical experience designing and consuming REST APIs
Good understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles, and common architectural patterns
Experience with automated testing, code reviews, Git, and CI/CD workflows
Experience working with relational databases and data modeling
Ability to translate product requirements into clear, maintainable technical solutions
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership from initial design through delivery and support
Experience collaborating effectively in a distributed or international product organization
Clear written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to balance technical quality, customer value, and delivery needs
It would be an advantage if you have
Experience with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms
Experience with distributed systems, microservices, or event-driven architectures
Experience developing enterprise, industrial, training, or simulation software
Experience with maritime, defense, gaming, logistics,
or other domain-intensive systems
Familiarity with API contract testing, observability, and application performance monitoring
Experience working with complex systems that combine software, hardware, and real-time data
Experience mentoring colleagues or leading technical initiatives
An interest in maritime operations, navigation, or professional training technology
Domain knowledge is beneficial, but it is not a requirement. You will collaborate with maritime and simulation specialists who can help you understand the operational context.
How we work
You will be part of a senior, cross-functional team in Halifax with a product owner responsible for product priorities and direction. The team will have access to established simulation capabilities, APIs, tools, domain expertise, and technical support from the wider MSIM organization.
Because key colleagues are based in Norway and Bulgaria, good asynchronous communication and thoughtful documentation will be important. Some working-time overlap across locations will be needed, but the Halifax team is expected to organize its work and make decisions with a high degree of autonomy.
We value engineers who communicate early, ask constructive questions, share knowledge, and take responsibility for the complete outcome, not only their individual code contributions.
Join a recent Halifax team and influence how it works from the beginning
Build products on top of advanced, established maritime simulation technology
Work on meaningful solutions that support professional training, competence, and safer maritime operations
Take ownership of complete product capabilities, from technical design to production quality
Collaborate with software, simulation, UX, and maritime specialists across an international organization
Solve challenging problems in a complex and highly specialized domain
Grow your expertise while helping others succeed
Help us turn advanced simulation capabilities into valuable products for maritime professionals around the world.
