ABOUT COCO ATELIER
Coco Atelier is the house of brands behind a growing portfolio created for children, youth and families. As part of the Mastermind Toys group, we build distinctive products by bringing together design, product development, brand expression and commercial execution.
• Coco Village - our flagship design-driven brand for children and families, together with its sub-brands Coco Studio and Zylo.
• Campus13 - a tween/teen lifestyle brand inspired by pop culture, built to create highly desirable products, experiences and communities.
Our products are designed in Quebec and manufactured with overseas partners. We move quickly and look for people who can turn a creative idea into a real product that is well designed, safe, manufacturable and delivered on time.
THE MANDATE
We are looking for a Textile Product Designer & Production Specialist to take ownership of soft goods categories such as plush, dolls, blankets, backpacks and other textile accessories - excluding apparel.
This role combines creative design, technical product development and manufacturing follow-through. You will own the product from the initial idea through final production: research, concepts, illustrations, prints, tech packs, samples, compliance, costing, quality, problem solving and direct collaboration with overseas suppliers.
We want someone highly hands-on, autonomous and solutions-oriented. Someone who loves creating, but is equally comfortable correcting a tech pack, reviewing a sample, solving a production issue or working directly with a factory to keep a project moving.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
• Create distinctive, playful and commercially relevant textile products that strengthen our assortments.
• Turn ideas quickly into clear, executable technical specifications for manufacturing partners.
• Deliver projects on time, on cost and to the expected quality and safety standards.
• Identify issues early, own the solution and keep projects moving forward.
• Build strong supplier relationships and continuously improve execution quality.
• Bring forward new ideas in materials, techniques, prints and constructions based on trends and manufacturing possibilities.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Creative design & assortments
• Actively contribute to the ideation and development of new textile products from first concept through final product.
• Create original illustrations,
patterns and prints that are playful, distinctive and aligned with the brand and broader assortment.
• Develop product concepts with equal consideration for aesthetics, use, cost, safety and manufacturability.
• Continuously research market trends, competitors, materials, colours and new manufacturing techniques.
Technical development, samples & compliance
• Create and maintain tech packs, technical drawings, specifications, print files and all other documentation required for manufacturing.
• Lead sample and prototype cycles, review results and communicate precise revisions through final approval.
• Ensure products meet applicable safety, certification and regulatory requirements for baby and children’s products.
• Partner with product development, merchandising and other teams to ensure feasibility, assortment consistency and cost targets.
Production, suppliers & problem solving
• Communicate directly with overseas manufacturing partners and maintain rigorous project follow-up at every stage.
• Oversee production with close attention to details, costs, timelines, quality and multiple technical requirements.
• Identify production bottlenecks and issues quickly, propose practical solutions and drive them through resolution.
• Build strong, direct and long-term business relationships with suppliers.
• Travel to Asia to visit factories, oversee production, meet suppliers and attend trade shows, approximately two trips of 1-3 weeks per year.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• Education in fashion design, graphic design, textile design or a related field.
• Approximately 5 years of experience in product design, textiles, soft goods or a comparable manufacturing-development role.
• Hands-on experience with overseas manufacturing and a good understanding of safety and certification requirements.
• Strong technical drawing, tech pack, sample-development and packaging skills.
• Excellent command of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
• Robust illustration skills and the ability to create playful, distinctive visuals and prints.
• High creativity combined with an analytical, structured and design-thinking mindset.
• High autonomy, resourcefulness, attention to detail and a natural problem-solving approach.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deliverables and priorities under tight deadlines.
• Bilingual French and English, both written and spoken.
• Availability and genuine interest in the international travel required for the role.
OUR ENVIRONMENT
We want to be transparent: this is a demanding role. Product development is rarely linear. Priorities shift, samples do not always come back right the first time, cost constraints evolve and production issues often need to be solved quickly.
We are looking for someone who does not wait for a perfect brief or for someone else to provide the answer. You need to take ownership, ask the right questions, clarify grey areas and move projects forward with judgement and energy.
The hands-on aspect is essential. You need to enjoy designing as much as solving, creating as much as documenting, and working in the details while keeping the full product in view. The work can be intense, but it is especially rewarding for someone who wants to see their ideas become real products in the market.
WORK LOCATION
Our offices are currently located at 50 Saint-Charles Street West in Longueuil, on Montreal's South Shore. As of January 2027, our offices will be located at 5524 St-Patrick Street in Southwest Montreal. The work model is flexible hybrid, averaging approximately three days per week in person, based on team and project needs.
WHAT WE OFFER
• Annual compensation of $60,000-$70,000, based on experience and portfolio.
• Flexible work schedule.
• Group insurance including telemedicine and an employee assistance program.
• Paid time off beyond applicable minimum standards.
• Employee discounts on Mastermind Toys and Coco Village products, as well as selected partner offers.
• Business travel expenses covered by the employer.
If you only enjoy the creative side and prefer to leave the realities of production to someone else, this is probably not the role for you. If you want to design, solve, build and own a product through to reality, we want to see your portfolio.
