About Us

Eighth Avenue Animal Hospital is a newly opening small-animal veterinary hospital in New Westminster, BC. We are looking for a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Veterinary Assistant / Client Care Representative to join our growing team.

Our up-to-date hospital is committed to providing high-quality veterinary medicine, compassionate patient care, excellent client service, and a supportive team environment. We are open 7 days a week, with rotating shifts that include weekends.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with animals and people and is interested in a varied role combining veterinary assistance, patient care, and front-desk responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Client Care and Reception

- Welcome clients and their pets with a friendly, professional, and compassionate approach.
- Answer phone calls, emails, and general client inquiries.
- Schedule appointments and help coordinate daily patient flow.
- Process payments, invoices, and treatment estimates.
- Maintain accurate patient records and client information.
- Assist with administrative tasks and general front-desk duties.
- Keep the reception area clean, organized, and welcoming.

Veterinary Assistant Duties

- Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and medical procedures.
- Safely handle and restrain dogs and cats.
- Prepare examination rooms, surgical packs, instruments, and medical equipment.
- Assist with patient monitoring and basic nursing care as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in treatment, kennel, and surgical areas.




- Help maintain an efficient workflow and ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital.

Qualifications and Requirements
- A genuine interest in animal care and veterinary medicine.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work effectively in a busy environment.
- Comfortable handling dogs and cats.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with administrative tasks.
- A reliable, professional, compassionate, and team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends.

Previous experience in a veterinary clinic, animal hospital, animal shelter, or medical office is an asset, but not required. We welcome motivated candidates who are eager to learn and develop their skills.

Compensation and Employment

- Pay: $19–$22 per hour, depending on experience.
- Employment type: Full-time and part-time positions available.
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, including weekends.
- Work location: In person at our New Westminster hospital.
