Early Reading Support

Effective immediately

For an indefinite period, but not to extend beyond June 30, 2027

Mandatory Requirements

- Basic qualifications to teach in the Primary Division
- French as a Second Language Part 1

Preferred Requirements

- Additional Qualifications in Reading Specialist is an asset.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Ontario New Language Curriculum Grades K-8 (2023), Kindergarten Curriculum (2026) Guides to Effective Instruction, Science of Reading and Acadience.
- Proven ability to implement effective instructional strategies in phonetic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension strategies.
- Provide one-on-one or small group supports to students in Kindergarten to Grade 3.
- Provide direct Tier 2 and Tier 3 reading interventions and other supports.
- Experience and training in providing instruction to students who are struggling to learn to read.
- Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to supporting equity of outcomes for all learners and fostering an instructional approach in literacy.
- Sound knowledge of the programs and teaching experience in the primary division.
- Repertoire of current instructional and assessment strategies.
- Proficient fluency in French as a Second Language.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.




- Knowledge and experience in implementing structured literacy and the use of student data to drive instruction.
- Understanding and experience in implementing the CEFR approach into FSL instruction.
- Commitment to supporting the use of technology in instruction and learning, and to promoting an workplace of innovation and creativity that engages the 21st century learner.
- Proven ability to implement effective classroom management strategies.
- Commitment to being an active participant in the school's professional learning team to promote student achievement.
- Knowledge of, and familiarity with, the school environment would be an asset.
