HIRING: Evening and Afternoon Website Editor and Writer (Remote – Canada)

Rebel News is seeking a punctilious grammarian, spelling aficionado and all-around detail-oriented Web Editor & Writer to join our digital publishing team during the afternoon and evening hours.

This is not just a nightly show-posting role. You'll work with our editors, reporters and producers to get Rebel News content published quickly and accurately across our website and other digital platforms. That can include writing and editing page copy, publishing video reports, proofreading, formatting pages, updating our podcast pages, assisting with emails and social media, and helping transparent the day's publishing queue as new content comes in.

Later in the shift, you'll also help make sure our Rebel News+ shows and other evening content are properly published and displayed across our platforms.

We're looking for an excellent writer and an even better proofreader. You should be the kind of person who notices a misspelled name, awkward sentence, incorrect headline or broken embed before anyone else does. Strong editorial judgment, attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential.

The ideal candidate also understands Canadian news and politics, is comfortable learning new publishing tools, and can manage multiple time-sensitive assignments without sacrificing accuracy.

We're flexible on the exact arrangement. A typical full shift could be approximately 12 p.m.–8 p.m. ET, but we're also open to shorter afternoon/evening shifts such as 2 p.m.– 8 p.m. ET. The position can be structured as full-time, part-time or hourly depending on the right candidate and their availability.

This position can also be combined with our Weekend Web Editor role for candidates seeking additional hours.

Write, edit and publish accurate and compelling page copy for Rebel News video reports, interviews, shows and other content

Proofread copy carefully for spelling, grammar, clarity, accuracy and consistency before publication

Build, format and publish posts on Rebel News.com, including proper headlines, tagging, categorization, embeds, metadata and basic SEO

Upload and publish video content across Rebel News platforms, including JW Player, You Tube, Rumble and other distribution platforms as required

Help the web team work through the daily publishing queue, particularly as edited videos and other content are completed later in the day

Review basic factual information, names,

titles and other details before publication, and flag potential editorial issues when something doesn't look right

Ensure published pages, videos, embeds and other assets display and function correctly

Help maintain and improve Rebel News podcast pages and ensure new podcast episodes are properly published, organized and presented

Help publish Rebel News+ shows and other scheduled evening content and ensure everything is live and functioning properly at the required time

Assist with social media publishing when required

Learn to prepare and send emails using Nation Builder or similar tools, including adapting published content into email updates and promotions

Work with reporters, video editors and the editorial team to make sure required materials and approvals are in place before publication

Use AI tools where appropriate to make routine publishing work more efficient, while applying human editorial judgment and never relying on AI as a substitute for accurate writing, proofreading or fact‑checking

Work independently, prioritize competing assignments and meet time-sensitive publishing deadlines

Qualifications:

- Excellent English writing, spelling, grammar and proofreading skills
- Strong attention to detail — you should be someone who catches errors other people miss
- Good editorial judgment and the confidence to flag something that appears inaccurate, unclear or inappropriate for publication
- Familiarity with Canadian news, politics and public affairs
- Ability to write clear, original page copy from a video, transcript, interview or reporter's notes
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities in a fast-moving newsroom
- Comfort working independently during afternoon and evening hours
- Experience with CMS tools such as Nation Builder or Word Press is preferred, although we can train the right candidate
- Good judgment when using AI tools. AI can be a useful assistant, but it is not a replacement for original writing, editorial judgment or careful review

Additional Assets:

- Experience with JW Player, You Tube Studio, Rumble, Facebook, X or similar publishing platforms

- Experience publishing or managing podcasts
- Experience with email campaign tools such as Nation Builder or Mailchimp
- Basic Photoshop or Canva skills
- Basic video editing skills
- Experience working in a newsroom, digital media outlet or other deadline-driven publishing environment

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, with regular afternoon and evening availability

A typical full-time shift would be approximately 12 p.m.–8 p.m. ET

We're also open to a shorter schedule, such as 2 p.m.–8 p.m. ET, for the right candidate

The key requirement is reliable availability into the evening, when much of our day's edited content is ready to be published

Remote position; working from our Toronto headquarters is also welcome

Candidates in Western Canadian time zones may find the schedule particularly convenient

Compensation:

Compensation is commensurate with experience. We're flexible on structure and open to full time salary, part-time salary or hourly arrangements depending on the candidate's availability and experience.

Just submitted my application. Hire me

If only this was 10 years ago. I have good writing skills and I trive working on my own. I also love watching Rebel News reports. Uploading copy might be a challenge at first but I would have been eager to learn. Evenings are when I work best. But it’s too late now since I’m retired.
