The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital are seeking internal applications for the Chair in Healthy Aging at St. Michael’s Hospital-Unity Health Toronto. The successful candidate must currently hold a full-time academic appointment at the rank of Professor and hold a Scientist appointment at Unity Health Toronto – St.
Michael’s Hospital. This is a five-year, joint University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital term chair. The tentative start date of this appointment is December 1, 2026, or shortly thereafter.
The successful candidate will be a nationally and internationally recognized clinician‑scientist at Unity Health Toronto with an established research program in healthy aging and a very solid track record of research activity and success. Their research program may include topics such as maintaining health and independence in older age, access to healthcare for aging adults, improved health services and knowledge translation related to healthy aging.
Their research should be internationally recognized and align with the research priorities of Unity Health Toronto.
Applicants will be evaluated by an Appointments Committee according to University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital policies. Consideration will be given to the applicant’s record of scholarly activity (including but not limited to grants, peer‑reviewed publications, program development, collaborations with organizations nationally and internationally, supervision of graduate students and fellows, teaching) and contributions to the field.
Professionalism and contributions to St.
Michael’s Hospital and the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and incorporation of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principles into their research program will also be considered.
The chair will provide up to $270,000 per year for 5 years, which will be used to top up clinical salary support of the incumbent, as well as support the academic activities and/or interests of the incumbent, including research operations and educational events in alignment with institutional guidelines.
