Featured Opportunity: Designated Constable 1st Class - General Investigation Unit
Transit Police is looking for experienced investigators. If you are a current or recently retired police officer with experience in major case management and complex investigations - we want you to join our team! Our General Investigation Unit is looking for a senior officer to provide mentorship and expertise. Work hours are either Mon-Thu or Tue-Fri, 6:30 am start time.
Lateral Candidates
Candidates from within British Columbia who are currently working for a municipal police department, designated policing unit, designated law enforcement unit or provincial police agency, or who have been so employed within the last 3 years, may be able to bypass the exemption process and follow the simplified application process, as follows.
- Intake Interview by Recruiting Unit
- Medical Exam
- Polygraph
- Background investigation
- File review and approval by Chief Officer
Exempt Candidates
Applicants currently serving as police officers outside of B.C.
will be required to write a series of exams that exempt them from recruit training. Candidates from within Canada may be exempt from blocks 1, 2 and 3 of the Police Recruit Training Program while international candidates may be exempt from block 3 only.
If the Ministry of Public Safety’s Director of Police Services is satisfied that the candidate is eligible for consideration, the Director will refer the candidate to the Police Academy for examinations and testing of skills.

Contract Candidates
Contract Police Officers must be qualified police officers in Canada, with a minimum of 20 years of experience, hired by MVTP within three years of leaving their previous police agency.
The contract term will be up to 5 years; this can be canceled or extended with Union agreement.
Contract Police Officers will not be eligible for promotion, increment or specialty sections.
Contract Police Officers will be entitled to perks as "temporary employees" described in the Collective Agreement.
Will receive approximately 368 hours of leave per year, which is a combination of annual leave, statutory time and accumulated time off
Pay will be in accordance with the Member’s years of service in policing.
Pension - if the Member is already collecting their MPP pension, they will receive 15% in lieu of a pension; they can direct any portion of this to their own RRSP have it paid out annually.
