Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.
Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.
Position Overview:
The Senior Research Assistant will support various aspects of a large-scale research project related teaching pedagogies that support student well-being and success in K-12 schools. The appraoch used for this study is Participatory Action Research (PAR). The SRA will work closely with the faculty supervisor and the research team to conduct academic literature reviews, work directly with teacher-participants in schools, support all aspects of the qualitative research process (including data collection, management, and analysis), knowledge mobilization, and support the overall organization of the research program.
Duties:
Lead or co-lead biweekly research team meetings, including developing agendas, coordinating logistics, documenting decisions, and following up on action items.
Lead or co-lead meetings with teacher-participants, supporting collaborative discussion, relationship-building, and participatory decision-making.
Lead the project's literature review process, including developing search strategies, organizing and synthesizing literature, and mentoring other RAs in conducting a scoping review.
Lead qualitative data analysis, including developing and refining coding frameworks, conducting thematic coding of meeting transcripts and fieldnotes,
and supporting triangulation and interpretation with teacher-participants.
Mentor and support other RAs in qualitative research methods, data management, coding, literature searching, and research ethics.
Organize and co-lead career development sessions and teacher workshops, translating research findings and project learning into meaningful professional learning opportunities for educators.
Contribute to knowledge mobilization and dissemination, including conference presentations, academic publications, professional publications, podcasts, social media, and other public-facing research activities.
Take an active role in the overall coordination of the research program, working closely with the PI to identify emerging needs, solve problems, and ensure that research activities progress effectively and ethically.
Qualifications:
Graduate-level training in education, educational psychology, social sciences, or a related field, preferably with experience conducting qualitative educational research.
Experience with Participatory Action Research (PAR), community-based research, or other collaborative research methodologies is strongly preferred.
Experience conducting academic literature reviews, with the ability to independently identify, evaluate synthesize, and organize scholarly literature. Experience with scoping or systematic review processes is an asset.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills, including the ability to support and train other research assistants in research procedures and qualitative research practices.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with academic and professional audiences and to contribute to research reports, presentations, publications, and knowledge-mobilization activities.
Interest in student well-being, mental health, flourishing, and/or K–12 education, and a commitment to collaborative, strengths-based, and participant-engaged research.
Demonstrated experience with qualitative research, including data collection, interview or focus group facilitation, fieldnotes, qualitative data management, coding, thematic analysis, and interpretation.
Comfort with audio-recording, transcription, and AI-supported research technologies, with an understanding of the need for human oversight, accuracy, confidentiality, and ethical use of these technologies.
Strong understanding of research ethics and responsible conduct of research, including experience working with research ethics protocols and maintaining confidentiality and secure research data.

The period of work will be fromOct 23, 2026 - Dec 31, 2027 and the estimated total hours of work will be 50-250 hours.
