Specific responsibilities entail the following:

- Assist the student to complete assignments and different tasks, which fulfill their social, physical, academic, and life skills objectives as outlines in their IEP and assigned by the Teacher.

- Maintain any documentation (behavior logs, anecdotal notes, etc.) on the student

- Assist other students with-in the classroom and become familiar with the students learning needs as required

- Supervise the student as required

- Facilitate student integration skills

- Review and reinforce learning activities using lesson plans and learning strategies developed by the teacher/team to help the student master concepts and skills

- Assist in the collection of data for the purpose of evaluating student progress

- Assist in meeting individual behavioral objectives of student

- Help in maintaining and organizing classroom and teaching material

- Implement plans as specified by Teacher

- Act as a resource to any student

- Carry out Teacher’s plans for the students – including academic and non-academic activities

- Maintain accurate student records and confidentiality

- Assist students with school assignments under the direction of the teacher

- Supervise students’ safety in new environments, field trips, etc.

- Be familiar and understand medical concerns that are relevant to the children you work with

- Be familiar with emergency protocol and response (Earth quake, fire, etc.)





- Monitor and record the progress of students with regards to the objectives outlined in the IEP

- First Aid and Supervision duties as scheduled

Adaptability:

- Participates in all tasks that are associated with the Special Needs Program

- Adheres to the code of conduct and ethical standards as set out by Highroad Academy

- Notifies administrator in a timely manner of absences so that a TOC/sub. can be obtained

- Maintains and updates documentation

- Maintains confidentiality regarding students and staff issues

- Maintains a skilled attitude, boundaries and work environment

- Exhibits flexibility with the natural ebbs and flows that are required within this department (changes in schedule; supporting other students when required; etc.)

Interpersonal Relations:

- Maintain constant and open communication with Classroom Teacher & Department Head

- Brings potential problems and concerns to the attention of Department Head

- Develops positive relationships with students, Teachers and other team members

- Displays professional boundaries in all situations and relationships in regards to students, parents, and staff relationships.

- Follows policies and protocols

Initiative:

- Develops a Personal Growth Plan

- Self-initiates for needs of the student and classroom

- Helps to organize activities that are necessary for the completion of tasks

- Acts as a resource for any student

- Promotes a positive image of Special Needs Students within the school and community

- Engages in the greater Highroad community
