Applications will be reviewed as operational needs arise. .........................................................................................................................................................................................................................GRASSLANDS is hiring!ABOUT THE POSITION: The Grasslands Transportation Department is seeking applications for Substitute Bus Aide.

This is a casual employment chance.

This advertisement will remain continuously active to recruit a pool of qualified substitutes to be called upon on an as-needed basis.

The Bus Aide plays a critical role in ensuring student safety during daily school commutes.

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain a secure, orderly, and distraction-free environment on the bus.

School bus aides must remain highly vigilant, actively monitor student behavior, and strictly enforce safety rules while maintaining professional boundaries.

Everything we do in Grasslands supports student learning and achievement and this position requires an applicant who works well under pressure and in energetic environments while upholding the values of the division.

This role requires patience, kindness, and resiliency, and an understanding of the importance of this role for our students, colleagues, and community.ABOUT GRASSLANDS PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Grasslands is a public school division serving the City of Brooks and surrounding County of Newell, with a student population of about 3,577.

We have three elementary school locations within the City of Brooks and seven rural locations throughout the County of Newell in addition to seven colony school locations.

Ensures all students sit in their designated seats, and maintain an updated paper copy of the seating plan.

Actively monitors the bus aisle and student seating areas to ensure all safety rules are strictly followed.

Enforces all safety protocols consistently and in a timely manner.

Completes and submits misconduct reports for any student violating safety rules to establish a clear paper trail for school administration.

Encourages positive and respectful interactions between students, drivers, and staff.

Follows individual student support plans, medical protocols, or specialized safety plans as required.

Provides appropriate physical support including lifting and transferring students, as required.

Helps create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for students and staff.IDEAL CANDIDATES SKILLS & ABILITIESEnsures full attention remains on student safety; the use of personal cell phones, headsets, and earbuds is strictly prohibited while on duty.

Leads by example by following the same rules as students on the bus (e.g., no eating or chewing gum).

Prioritizes student safety by maintaining boundaries and enforcing rules firmly and fairly by addressing concerns, explaining the safety reasons behind them.

Demonstrates strong commitment to punctuality across all morning, noon, and afternoon shifts, alongside the ability to manage and submit required paperwork accurately and on time.

Possesses strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with students, school staff, and supervisors.





Exhibits excellent problem-solving, organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills .

Holds a genuine interest in working with students of all ages and backgrounds.

Demonstrates patience, flexibility, resilience, and the ability to remain calm and supportive in a busy environment.

Displays a growth mindset with a willingness to learn, adapt, and positively implement constructive feedback from supervisors.

Contributes to a student-centred environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion, showing deep respect for individuals from all backgrounds.

Demonstrates personal integrity, trustworthiness, and the ability to establish positive relationships and rapport with students and coworkers.

Understands and supports Grasslands Public Schools’ mission, values, and vital role in ensuring students arrive to and from school safely.PREFERRED EDUCATION High school diploma or equivalent
