**Position Description**
As an expert in casting, the Registered Orthopaedic Technologist collaborates with other members of the health care team to provide care to patients primarily in (but not limited to) the Division of Orthopaedics.
This position performs technical skills in the care of paediatric patients in the Clinic, Operating Room and Inpatient Units.
The Registered Orthopaedic Technologist will work within the standards of the Hospital and the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technolgists.
**Here's What You'll Get To Do**
Perform a comprehensive assessment of children who have orthopedic musculo-skeletal conditions, and develop an orthopedic care plan in collaboration with the child/family and the interdisciplinary health care team
Document on and participate in the development of the interdisciplinary plan of care
Under the guidance of the Resource Orthopedic Technologist, implement and document the orthopedic care plan
Perform interventions focused on the following areas: Splint/cast application; application of dressings/bandages; removal/repair/re-enforce casts; windowing/wedging casts; removal of sutures/wires/pins/external fixators; application of principles of surgical asepsis; preparation for minor surgical procedures application; and maintenance of traction and traction equipment
Perform daily inspection of all Orthopedic patients and equipment throughout the hospital
Educate patients/families in cast, skin and other care including danger signs
Assess, evaluate and revise the orthopedic plan by re-evaluation of patient status
Consult with the child/family, as well as the interdisciplinary team members, within and outside of the Hospital
Participate in research and continuing education initiatives
**Here's What You'll Need**
Successful completion of Grade 12
Graduation from an accredited Orthopaedic Technology Program
Current registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists
Completed CSOT exams
Minimum 2 years experience in a hospital setting preferred
Demonstrated initiative, self-direction and motivation
Good communication skills
Good time management skills
Demonstrated ability to be a team player who relates well to other people
Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning and evidence-based practice
**Employment Type;**
Permanent part time 0.60FTE- 3 days per week, on site
