Full-Time Cook – Mexican Food Production

About the Position

Salsita is a Mexican food store in NW Calgary offering authentic Mexican groceries and prepared foods. We are looking for a responsible and reliable Full-Time Cook to join our team.

This position is primarily focused on preparing Mexican foods for packaging and retail sale rather than traditional restaurant service. Our prepared foods include items such as birria, carnitas, al pastor, chorizo, tamales, chiles rellenos, guacamole, Mexican salsas and other traditional dishes.

Main Responsibilities

- Prepare and cook Mexican dishes following Salsita’s established recipes, portions and quality standards.
- Prepare foods such as birria, carnitas, al pastor, chorizo, tamales, chiles rellenos and other menu items.
- Prepare fresh guacamole and a variety of Mexican salsas.
- Portion, package, label and prepare cooked foods for refrigeration or freezing and retail sale.
- Maintain consistency in flavour, portions and presentation.
- Prepare tacos, chilaquiles and other made-to-order foods when requested by customers or through delivery orders.
- Follow proper food handling, sanitation and food safety procedures.
- Keep the kitchen, equipment and work areas clean and organized.
- Monitor ingredients and communicate when supplies need to be replenished.




- Occasionally operate the cash register and assist customers.
- Help customers locate Mexican ingredients and products in the store.
- Provide basic assistance to customers who have questions about Mexican ingredients or how certain products are traditionally prepared.
- Work cooperatively with the rest of the Salsita team.

Requirements

- Previous cooking or food preparation experience is preferred.
- Experience with Mexican cuisine is an asset.
- Ability to follow recipes accurately and maintain consistent quality.
- Comfortable preparing food in batches for packaging and retail sale.
- Good organization and cleanliness.
- Responsible, dependable and able to work independently.
- Able to communicate in English with customers and coworkers.
- Comfortable providing basic customer service and operating a cash register when needed.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Availability to work weekends as required.

Pay: $16.00-$19.00 per hour
