Grade 6 English Tutor, Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT)
Help one student. Change one family's life. Rediscover why you became a teacher.
At TeachItRight, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed, regardless of the challenges they face.
TeachItRight was founded after seeing firsthand how many incredible students are slipping through the cracks of an increasingly overwhelmed education system. Too many families are searching for support, and too many passionate teachers no longer have the time, resources, or opportunity to provide the individualized teaching they know their students deserve. We created TeachItRight to change that.
Our mission is simple. To connect exceptional educators with students who need them most while giving teachers the professional respect, autonomy, and support they deserve.
We are building a community where educators can focus on what they do best. Teaching. Building relationships. Celebrating progress. Helping children discover what they are truly capable of.
Our Current Opportunity
We are currently looking for an Ontario Certified Teacher to support a Grade 6 student through individualized, one-on-one teaching in her home in Ottawa.
She is a student who has made progress in her literacy development through previous reading intervention but continues to experience challenges with reading, writing, and spelling. Her family is looking for additional academic support to help her strengthen these skills and build confidence as she progresses through Grade 6.
She:
- Has previously participated in the Empower Reading program and made progress.
- Continues to experience challenges with reading, writing, and spelling.
- Would benefit from individualized instruction to strengthen her literacy skills.
- Needs support developing greater confidence and independence in her academic work.
Her family is looking for an educator who will become another trusted part of her learning journey. Together, you will focus on strengthening reading comprehension, spelling, written expression, and her ability to organize and develop ideas in writing,
while continuing to build her confidence and independence through meaningful, one-on-one learning experiences.
We believe the best outcomes happen when teachers are not doing it alone.
At TeachItRight, we don't just match teachers with students. We bring together teachers and families who are committed to working as one team. That means families who value your professional expertise. Families who communicate openly. Families who understand that meaningful progress is built through consistency, collaboration, and trust.
You will never be expected to navigate challenges on your own. You will have a leadership team that checks in, listens, problem-solves alongside you, and genuinely wants you to succeed because we know that when our teachers feel supported, our students succeed too.
If this sounds like you, we would love to learn more about you.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is an Ontario Certified Teacher with experience supporting students who experience challenges with reading and writing.
- Believes relationships come before results.
- Understands that every child learns differently.
- Leads with patience, creativity, encouragement, and high expectations.
- Has a strong understanding of literacy instruction and strategies for supporting reading comprehension, spelling, and written expression.
- Knows how to celebrate the smallest breakthroughs because you have seen how those moments often become the foundation for something much bigger.
- Became a teacher because you wanted to make a meaningful difference in someone's life.
What you will be doing
You will work one-on-one with this student to create engaging, individualized learning experiences that support her academic goals. Your sessions may include:
- Strengthening reading comprehension through individualized literacy instruction.
- Developing spelling skills and written expression.

- Building foundational literacy skills to support continued academic progress.
- Encouraging greater independence while celebrating each milestone.

You will also receive:
- Competitive compensation of $80 to $100 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
